Kangta’s first appearance in an SM Town Concert since Chile in 2019, was a little different from what his fans are used to. Starting off ,he expressed his wish to get closer to fans this year, and talked a bit about what he worked on in 2020. Working on new songs in the studio, such as “Cough Syrup,”which he described as an R&B song and quite different from all of his previous performances.
Out of all the performances we saw, Kangta’s was very relaxed and chill, much like the vibe of the song itself, the box-like setting he sat in, and the glittering lights surrounding him all added onto the relaxed ambience of the song. His vocals are phenomenal, are we surprised? Not really. After all, he was part of the first K-Pop idol group H.O.T who debuted in 1996 and their successful formula became the model for many groups that followed after. The combination of his soft vocals, and the melodies of “Cough Syrup,” made for a sweet entrance to the new year.
