No strangers to a sexy concept, global K-pop group ATEEZ released their 11th EP GOLDEN HOUR : Part.2 in November and it’s equal parts dark and sensual. beabadoobee – This Is How Tomorrow Moves
Filipino English singer and songwriter, beabadoobee, has consistently been in the spotlight since her teenage years, with listeners witnessing her musical and personal growth. Her third studio album, This Is How Tomorrow Moves, showcases how she has steered from topics of teenage angst to mature acceptance. In true beabadoobee fashion, the narrative is typically carried by a guitar-driven band sound. However, there are deviations like “Girl Song,” a track primarily concentrated around the piano. Beabadoobee’s versatility shines in this 14-track exploration, from slow-tempoed folk rock to forward-looking indie pop.
This Is How Tomorrow Moves closely speaks to the intimate experience of reflection. What makes this album so special is its sheer authenticity. Beabadoobee not only discusses the complexities of love, but also heavy topics like grief and childhood trauma. This has proven to be a special project for the singer, debuting at number 1 in the United Kingdom. This Is How Tomorrow Moves speaks to those in a period of healing — providing an outlet for the suppressed emotions one may encounter in their early adulthood. — Jade Diones

NCT Dream – DREAM()SCAPE
Comparing freshly debuted NCT Dream singing “Chewing Gum” (eight years ago) to today’s NCT Dream, it’s hard to believe they’re even the same group. What started as an innocent and youthful extension of the NCT brand — bright, young teens with a dream — has gradually blossomed into something much deeper and more intimate as the members have entered adulthood. The septet’s sixth mini album, DREAM()SCAPE, is by far the darkest, most mature, and fierce NCT Dream record thus far.
Alternating between their usual experimental sounds (“Smoothie”), and a more ethereal, otherworldly approach (“icantfeelanything” and “UNKNOWN”), the phrase “Neo got my back” has never been more prevalent than it is here. With themes of feeling lost, lonely, and confused, DREAM()SCAPE is the group’s way of consoling listeners through tough times, while also opening up with their own struggles; they’re not any more immune to insecurities as we are. It’s like a jam and therapy session all rolled into one incredibly cohesive journey. — Chyenne Tatum

Tyler, The Creator – CHROMAKOPIA
CHROMAKOPIA made its boisterous entrance releasing at 6AM on Monday, October 28th. In a way, it sticks it to the industry, going against the standard of a Friday 12AM release. For his eighth studio album, Tyler, The Creator enlists a new alter ego, St. Chroma. The 14-track album is a whirlwind of braggadocious bars, experimental production, and features from rap’s most prominent figures. Highlights on the record include tracks like “Sticky (feat. GloRilla, Sexyy Red, and Lil Wayne)” and “Thought I was Dead (feat. ScHoolboy Q & Santigold).” Though the visuals for the album are devoid of color, reminiscent of the talkies of the early 20th century, the album’s soundscape could be anything but. After all, its name means an abundance of color. — Ellie Forte

TYLA – TYLA+
South African popstar Tyla’s self-titled debut album is a celebration of amapiano, pop, and R&B, cementing her as a global star on the rise. The album’s breakout single, “Water,” became a viral sensation, earning her the inaugural Grammy for Best African Music Performance and introducing international audiences to her sound. With tracks like the sultry “Art” and the catchy Jump,” featuring rappers Gunna and Skillibeng, “No.1” with singer Tems, or teaming up with Becky G, Tyla showcases her ability to switch it up while staying deeply connected to her roots.
The journey doesn’t end there, Tyla expanded her debut with the deluxe edition, TYLA+, adding in tracks like “Push 2 Start,” a high-energy anthem. GloRilla – GLORIOUS
In October, GloRilla delivered her debut album GLORIOUS, and it is just that. She has delivered hit after hit this year, from her collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion “Wanna Be” to “TGIF.” And after a year of introspection, the music makes it quite clear that GloRilla is cementing herself as a necessary piece to the rap industry. The 15-track record is a wondrous portal into GloRilla’s world from start to finish. It shouldn’t come as a surprise if you get hooked when listening. It meshes Memphis swagger with various collaborators across the culture. Her thick accent and Southern drawls highlight the truest versions of herself — worthy of several presses on the replay button.
We of course can’t talk about 2024 without mentioning “TGIF,” the song that has overtaken the summer. The song takes the beat from Koto’s 2022 hit “So Silly!” which samples the music within Death Note — a popular Japanese anime. Aside from the album’s chart topping singles, the feature list on GLORIOUS is star-studded. There are notable appearances from artists like T-Pain, Kirk Franklin, and Muni Long. With GLORIOUS, GloRilla joins artists like Megan Thee Stallion, Latto, and Doechii on the Billboard 200 chart. And as the year nears its end, one thing is certain: women are running rap. — E.F.

Megan Thee Stallion – MEGAN: ACT II
Three-time Grammy winner and Houston baddie Megan Thee Stallion dropped her third studio album MEGAN back in June and it was a banger, to say the least. But if 18 tracks and 52 minutes isn’t enough, she had to do it again when she dropped MEGAN: ACT II in October. And dare we say, it was even better than the first? With 31 tracks this time around, the album features the original 18 tracks of its predecessor with the addition of 13 new songs.
ACT II also featured collaborations, including the highly celebrated remix of “Mamushi” featuring K-pop girl group TWICE and “Neva Play” featuring South Korean rapper RM. The iconery doesn’t stop there, because she even sampled the hit R&B song “Goodies” by Ciara on “Roc Steady (feat. Flo Milli).” The silver-tongued rapper showcased her sharp lyrical prowess as the new face of hip-hop from poisoned jabs to heartbreaking confessions, MEGAN ACT II follows the motif of a snake: coiled and ready to strike yet as beautiful as it is deadly. — V.A.

In their first studio album, Filipino English alternative artist Jazmin Bean delivered 14 tracks exploring childhood trauma, addiction, and the winding road to healing. Shifting away from the electronicore sound of their debut EP Worldwide Torture, Jazmin dives into symphonic synth rock in Traumatic Livelihood. Drawing from a mix of orchestral and metallic elements, each track highlights Jazmin’s raw, vulnerable lyricism and gift for imagery. With standout songs like “Stockholm Butterfly” lamenting the loss of their younger self, Jazmin’s true-to-life songwriting taps into emotions that listeners may struggle to confront on their own.
As its name suggests, Traumatic Livelihood unleashes the depths of Jazmin’s psyche. Accompanied with visuals blending florals and gore, the album entwines dual narratives that speak to both the inner child and the inner demon. — Cass Guinto

BEYONCÉ – COWBOY CARTER
In her landmark mixed-genre album, COWBOY CARTER, Beyoncé draws from the sounds of country, Americana, pop, gospel, hip-hop, and more, reshaping the conversation around genre and artistry. Showcasing her effortless range of vocal styles, the album weaves together Beyoncé’s personal and cultural narratives. While paying homage to Black pioneers in country music, introducing listeners to new artists, and reclaiming spaces that historically excluded Black voices.
Tracks like The Beatles cover “BLACKBIIRD” feature the new crop of Black women country artists, encouraging them to reach their full heights. While “LEVII’S JEANS” featuring Post Malone and the Miley Cyrus collaboration “II MOST WANTED” bridge traditional country sounds with modern flair. The pure Tina Turner-inspired “YAYA” injects listeners with a burst of infectious energy, while “DAUGHTER” takes a bold turn midway with an operatic interlude that highlights Beyoncé’s vocal power.
COWBOY CARTER is as much about honoring the past as it is about forging new ground. The album is as introspective as it is expansive, with Beyoncé reflecting on identity, resilience, heritage, and the role Black Americans play in shaping what we know today. In hindsight, COWBOY CARTER feels more poignant than ever as we head into 2025. —D.G.
