Cat lovers and gamers rejoice: Cat Quest III is here to help you celebrate International Cat Day. Game developing studio The Gentlebros revives its successful action role-playing franchise on August 8 with the series’ third installment. Exactly seven years after the 2017 debut of Cat Quest, The Gentlebros honor their roots with a pirate-themed adventure. Ahead of the game’s official release, EnVi set sail in Cat Quest III to give you a full rundown.

Finding the North Star

Upon starting the game, players are introduced to the story’s protagonist, a curious and courageous cat on the hunt for treasure. Specifically, the game revolves around the young pirate’s quest to find the North Star. Along the way, players have to defeat antagonists to ensure that the power of the North Star is in the right hands — rather than those of the Pi-rats.

“Cat Quest III aims to fulfill the cat pirate fantasy and offer a story of hope and family,” Desmond Wong, chief executive officer at The Gentlebros, shared in a press statement.

As players immerse themselves in the wonders of the Purribean Sea, the cat pirate fantasy does come to life. The game encourages voyagers to explore extensively with the promise of discoveries. By venturing to new areas, players can add new items to their inventory and unlock character customization opportunities.

In Cat Quest III, character customization is functional. That is, players equip weapons and accessories that enhance their fighting ability. These come to life in the game’s many duels, each of which pushes the storyline further. Plus, the number of Pirate Lords you defeat before challenging the final boss and a surprise factor determine which version of the ending players will reach.

Players will meet a whimsical roster of characters during their experience. Captain Cappey is a tiny, blue spirit companion whose role is to support the player. The burly Mama Milka runs The Milky Barrel tavern, while Mage Bonney hangs at the Magic Bone and upgrades spells. And making his debut is Kidd Cat, brother of Kit Cat, who may be familiar to returning players.

About Cat Quest III

Cat Quest III is a straightforward game with adorable graphics and a welcoming storyline. Beginners can ease into role-playing adventures, while regular gamers can enjoy a laid-back and rewarding experience. Players who want to change their gameplay can experiment with different game modes. For example, the  “New Game+” alters the level-gaining experience and allows players to break the intended game sequence.

Additionally, Cat Quest III features a complete, 37-song soundtrack — the biggest of any Cat Quest game. The instrumental transitions smoothly depending on the player’s actions and locations to create an immersive story. Players can opt to enjoy the music with a friend, using local co-op multiplayer with a second controller. While certain activities may be simpler with a partner, solo adventures are equally enjoyable.

More than 10 million players — catventurers, as The Gentlebros calls them — have explored Cat Quest and Cat Quest II in the seven years since the first installment’s launch. In that time, The Gentlebros studio has diligently developed the games’ features to give players the purrfect experience.
