In the midst of Cruise season, French luxury brand Dior presented its menswear Spring 2023 collection in Los Angeles. Dior Spring 2023, California Couture

Following Dior’s recent destination show in Seoul, South Korea, Dior Men headed over to the United States for the unveiling of its Spring 2023 capsule collection. Regarding the location choice, Dior stated in a press release, “The house chose to hold the show in California to celebrate the unbreakable ties that have bonded Christian Dior with the United States since 1947.”

Conceived as a mix between Parisian couture and Californian “pop culture pomp,” the collection represented the fruit of a creative dialogue between Dior Men’s Creative Director, Kim Jones, and guest designer Eli Russell Linnetz. Aptly titled “California Couture,” the brand’s latest runway paid homage to the Californian art de vivre and skater culture. However, there were also plenty of autobiographical elements that evoked the trajectory of Kim Jones at the helm of the famed brand. “Dior’s beloved gray is as much a nod to Kim Jones’ first collection for the house as a mischievous take on the school blazers worn by one Fresh Prince down the road in Bel-Air,” read the show’s notes.

Drawing parallels between Paris and California, Linnetz and Jones presented a reimagined and revivified version of Dior’s classics. In tune with Kim Jones’ penchant for reintroducing house codes, items like the bar jacket were reinterpreted with a strong sportswear influence. Meanwhile, the color palette included pastels juxtaposed with brighter tones that evoked the sunsets in Los Angeles. Of course, that included the trendiest color of the season, fuchsia.

In addition, Dior set up a virtual reality experience that allowed viewers from around the world to watch the event in real-time, through Horizon Venues. The first of this type for the brand, this virtual reality show allowed spectators to immerse in a digital amphitheater, surrounded by other avatars.

Dior’s Darlings

In its return to the United States, Dior invited dozens of high-profile celebrities to the show held at Venice Beach. Among others, Chistina Aguilera, Rita Ora, Diego Boneta, and Thomas Doherty turned up in their best Dior outfits to support Kim Jones and Eli Russell Linnetz’s first joint effort.

Across the world, Global Ambassador and Dior Dearest, Oh Sehun raised anticipation for the show when he took to Instagram to post his invitation to the event. Snowdrop actor Jung Haein, Why Her’s Hwang In Youp and singer Ren also flaunted their show invitations on social media.

Sehun, a Front Row Fixture

While the star-studded event attracted the attention of fashion lovers for the participation of Eli Russell Linnetz as a guest designer; online, the conversation centered around Dior’s South Korean Darling, Sehun. Ahead of the show, the brand took to social media to share a picture of the singer’s look for the digital front row. Showcasing his strong presence, Sehun donned an exclusive look from the Spring 2023 collection that consisted of a degradé sweater and blue trousers.

Sehun’s remote invitation to the unveiling of Dior Men’s Spring 2023 collection follows the superstar’s attendance at the brand’s show in Seoul earlier this month. However, the singer’s ties to the French fashion house date back to 2020 when he was appointed Dior Men’s ambassador for South Korea. Since then, the partnership continues to strengthen every season. Setting record after record with Sehun’s digital pull, the association has proven to be a beneficial one for both parties. In his role as Global Ambassador, the idol has landed coveted campaigns, magazine covers and is, of course, a front-row fixture at every show—even if it’s remotely. Meanwhile, Sehun’s features on Dior’s Instagram have generated millions of dollars in Media Impact Value for the brand.

Undeniably, as part of a selected group of South Korean artists, Sehun is leaving a mark in the world of fashion. If you want to revisit the star’s journey in the industry, check out Sehun’s Road to Fashion Fame here.
