In the Name of the Moon: Jimmy Choo Presents Second Sailor Moon Collaboration

Inspired by Naoko Takeuchi’s everlasting story, Sailor Moon, Jimmy Choo released the second installment of their Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon collaboration on October 9. The essence of Sailor Moon is captured in each item, including details like the guardian star mark and Swarovski crystal hearts. The collection expresses the sense of empowerment, individuality, dynamism, and female creativity shared between Naoko Takeuchi and Jimmy Choo’s creative director, Sandra Choi. 

About the Collection 

Released on October 9, the Jimmy Choo x Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon collection encapsulates everything that makes Sailor Moon such a beloved series. For the brand’s second collaboration with Takeuchi, the main theme is the story of the Sailor Soldiers saving the world with the superpower released when they gather together. Every detail references classic imagery from Takeuchi’s manga — for example, shoe soles are adorned with the Sailor Scouts’ guardian star mark.

Aside from expressing the individuality of each Sailor Guardian, the collection is meant to highlight the core themes of Sailor Moon such as “the power of women, the strength of teamwork, and the belief of protecting what is good.” In a press statement, Sandra Choi shared that she “was determined to pay homage to the idea of ​​the Sailor Soldiers as pop icons […] who inspire us to dream of a wonderful world.” 

Fashionable Footwear

While all the products featured in the collection are collectible material, the footwear lineup stands out on its own. Inspired by each of the Sailor Guardians, the shoes feature bright colors, uniquely shaped heels, and elongated toes. 

Fashioned in the likeness of Sailor Chibi, the Sailor Moon Boot 120 is a knee-high design with rubber platform soles and chunky heels. The heart motif, a representation of the unity of the Sailor Scouts, is seen on the zipper, golden star emblem button, and the pavé crystal buckle. 

Meanwhile, the Sailor Uranus Boot 95 is an interpretation of Sailor Uranus’ boots, made with a soft pleated material and a drop heel. The Sailor Neptune Pump 80, an emerald green crystal-embellished pair of pumps features a striking dropped heel silhouette and soft lace-up ribbons, embodying the elegant spirit of Sailor Neptune.  

On the other hand, the Sailor Pluto Boot 95 is a knee-high boot with white trim and a snug fit. It features removable accessories, including a velvet ribbon and heart-shaped Swarovski crystals inspired by the accessories on Sailor Pluto’s costume. A model inspired by Sailor Saturn rounds out the collection. With a modern silhouette in purple stretch knit, the Sailor Saturn Boot 50 are micro-boots finished with heart-adorned laces. 

An Iconic Collaboration

The iconic Jimmy Choo moccasin loafers are also featured in the collection and are available in two colorways. The Sailor Moon Marlow Mocassins feature Sailor Moon’s signature pink shade and are decorated with holographic crystals while the Luna Marlow Mocassins, inspired by Sailor Moon’s loyal companion Luna, are covered in black glitter. Both designs come with velvet ribbons. Finally, the Sailor Guardians Palma Maxi/F’s showcase artwork by Naoko Takeuchi on a simple white sneaker. 

Alongside the shoes, the new launch includes a variety of accessories ranging from vanity bags and airpod cases to scarves and hair slides. Each accessory is designed to match a specific character or memorable scene from the manga. 

To celebrate the collaboration, each item comes with a limited edition collector card. There are 24 card types in total — cards that represent Sailor Moon characters and 12 rare versions of the same designs. The cards are randomly included, and each item is guaranteed to come with at least one pack of collector cards, though some items come with more than one pack. 

The Super Soldiers

Sailor Moon is a Japanese shōjo manga written by Japanese manga artist, Naoko Takeuchi. It began serialization in 1991 in Kodansha’s shojo magazine, Nakayoshi. The series follows middle school student Usagi Tsukino and her friends as they juggle their newfound magical abilities with the realities of their day-to-day lives. 

Since its serialization in 1991, the original book has been translated into 17 languages. The story became a phenomenon in Japan and overseas once it was made into an animated series. In 2024, “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Raisonné ART WORKS 1991-2023″ was released, featuring art from the original serialization, as well as additional illustrations.
