The borders of her playful world doesn’t stop online, as the pop star recently hosted fan meet-ups across New York and L.A. Lucky attendees got to enjoy a free meet and greet, with a private listening session. Now, Stephens’ latest empowering anthem “Sugar Trap” is here and everyone should take caution – because this one’s dangerously addictive and bound to be on repeat.
A Trip to the Candy Shop
Who knew being sweet and mischievous could sound this good? Tapping in long-time collaborators Dallas Caton for production and co-writing with Lita, Stephens’ signature sound continues to bring a refreshing presence in today’s music landscape. Experimenting with trap beats and 2000s R&B, “Sugar Trap” is a dance-pop single that ties you in from the first note. By exploring the push and pull of today’s dating world more strategically, the song presents a unique point of view that playfully puts manipulation to good use.
Classic hooks are a signature technique for any pop singer, and this track is no different. Its message shines brightest during the chorus, “Got a bad sweet tooth, he a sucker for a smooch / Made him jump through hoops / He done slipped and fell into my sugar trap.” As the song closes out, Stephens encourages audiences to keep it moving in the game of love, but with a twist. She persuades people in the best way she knows how through singing lines like, “Little bit of sugar make a good boy go down (Ladies)” and “They’re waitin’ / That’s how the game is / So play it (Play it).” According to her rule book, reclaiming your worth is the most healing and attractive version of yourself.

Like all great things, the history books will show Auda City wasn’t built in a day. Sugar trappings are nowhere near the end, as teasers on Spotify are showing a new music video is on the way. And a set at Lollapalooza this weekend? It’s a step in the right direction.

The star is preparing to bring her TOTAL SELLOUT album to life through new performances filled with high energy and major drama. As all roads lead to Auda City, here’s hoping more clues from the singer will reveal themselves then.
