Pop icon Lisa made her long-overdue award show debut at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in New York City. The Thai superstar hit the stage as a solo artist, performing her chart-topping singles, “Rockstar” and “New Woman.” And as a consummate fashion icon, of course, she did it in style.
Cowboy Core on Stage
Thai singer, (upcoming) actress and style maven Lisa Manobal is on a roll. From establishing her own company to starting a new chapter of her fashion career with Louis Vuitton, the star has reaped success after success in 2024. In her most recent feat, the pop star made an electrifying debut on the stage of the 2024 VMAs.
For her performance, Lisa nodded to the cowboy fashion revival that marked the first half of the year. Mixing rockstar staples with Western-style elements, her red-and-black look featured an embellished miniskirt with an edgy side slit and a crop top. The focal point of Lisa’s fit, however, was a cowgirl-esque underbust corset adorned with studs, fringes and buckle belts.
Lisa topped off the fantastic ensemble with a pair of patent leather fingerless gloves, boots and rockstar-apt makeup. Does it get any cooler? When it comes to Lisa, yes!
Winning Louis Vuitton Fit
The K-pop megastar made yet another fashion statement when she walked on stage to receive the Moon Person trophy for “Best K-pop.” Lisa, who previously became the first solo artist to win the best K-pop award at the 2022 VMAs, stepped forward dressed in a sheer black dress.
Sultry but modern and featuring the hottest red carpet trends, the custom Louis Vuitton ensemble consisted of a metallic micro shorts and bustier set, worn underneath a sheer off-the-shoulder dress. The outfit was styled with strappy sandals and classy nude makeup, suitable for a Louis Vuitton global ambassador.
Once the big night came to an end, Lisa rocked a risqué body-hugging dress, backstage. The daring look embraced Lisa’s rockstar affinities, with a shredded mini dress layered over a black underwear set and paired with multi-strap platform shoes.
On the Black Carpet With Mugler
Prior to the show, Lisa appeared on the black carpet wearing a floor-length cream gown. As she posed in front of boisterous photographers, Lisa seemingly referenced her recent collaboration with Spanish singer Rosalia — the hood of Lisa’s dress recalled one of the singer’s outfits from the “New Woman” music video. The sleek finishes, sharp outlines and geometric corset detailing reflected the recognizable craftsmanship of French maison Mugler, which created Lisa’s custom look.
Not one to indulge in overly soft or understated outfits, the star balanced the flowing hem of her loose mermaid-cut dress with a corsetted bodice. It was a fusion of eras, balancing diverse interpretations of femininity at the intersection of regency and futurism. (Given the earthy color palette, the dress felt like thematic wardrobe pulled straight from a Dune press tour.)
Lisa completed the monochromatic look with bold jewelry and muted makeup. The key points of her beauty for the night were definitely the pouty nude lip, pink blush and inner corner shimmer. Plus, Lisa brought back her classic full bangs for the night — this time, in a chocolate brown shade.
