There’s nothing like a Loossemble concert. On October 9th, South Korean girl group Loossemble brought the Up Link Station Tour to New York City’s Town Hall. The five-piece girl group is composed of members Hyeju, Vivi, Gowon, Hyunjin, and Yeojin, who you may know from the former twelve-piece group LOONA. This tour, their youngest member Yeojin sat out due to health reasons. That, however, did not stop Loossemble from delivering an impressive show. Coming off the heels of their third EP TTYL, they’re here to bring Girls’ Night to New York fans.
Hot, Fun, and Sweet Like Cotton Candy
Ahead of their set, fans piled into the decadent venue, chatting each other up. In their hands, they carried a variety of lightsticks from C. Loo♡LooBong (Loossemble’s lightstick), to other artists’ lightsticks. And if they didn’t have a lightstick in their hand, their phone cases held a photocard of their favorite member within the group. The audience shined brightly as they waited in anticipation. As the lights dimmed, fans roared with anticipation. After all, who wouldn’t find themselves geeked out at the sight of Loossemble?
Music billowed from the speakers as ‘80’s inspired synths echoed through the walls. “Hocus Pocus” was the first song of the night, leaving fans and concert goers bewitched. From the fashions to the dancing and impressive vocals, Loossemble were magical. There’s a certain polish that is to be appreciated with idols that are so far in their career. And yet, they still found new wings for themselves as Loossemble.
The stage design was stripped back, with just lights and a black curtain, but they charmed the audience with ease. As they stopped to speak, it was hard not to appreciate the fashion. Their preppy-yet-simple outfits worked well throughout the night. Gowon sported a high-waisted pleated skirt with a buttoned up vest and a tie. Her bubble gum pink hair was fitting for her equally bubbly personality. Hyeju, like Gowon, donned a similar outfit with a pearl belt. Vivi’s outfit was simple, with a black dress and a white rose fitted on the neckline. Her white hair was styled in bangs and elaborate braids. Hyunjin emulated cat energy, sporting a kitten ear headband and black dress.
Girls’ Night with LOOSSEMBLE
Though they have a number of songs that are filled to the brim with bubbly pop production, Loossemble aren’t afraid to switch up concepts every now and then. After “Hocus Pocus” came the upbeat track “He Said I Said.” As Loossemble transitioned into “Girls’ Night,” the fans’ cheering ratcheted up a decibel or several. It was amazing to watch new life enter the eyes of fans as the group sang the opening lines of “Girls’ Night.” It was clear that the members were playing off the energy of the fans, too, making expressive faces. Their performances were flawless, offering steady vocals and energetic dancing.
Fans made sure that their love for Loossemble did not go unnoticed, collaborating with one another to book ads in Time Square. Hyeju made sure that fans could feel the group’s gratitude. “We actually saw the fan ad that was posted… Thank you.” Loossemble took a quick pause through the evening to read from a board with supportive messages from fans. And though venue staff instructed fans to sit, it was clear that seats weren’t able to bind the excitement of the audience.
TTYL
In each city, Loossemble would decide a member to teach the audience the dance for “TTYL.” Gowon described the teacher of the evening as a “very… powerful dancer, and very cute, very pretty, and hip-hop girl… This is Gowon!” The crowd erupted into cheers, sustaining it for nearly 30 seconds. As fans learned the dance to “TTYL,” they also got the opportunity to record TikTok videos with Gowon. It was much appreciated through the evening to see the members play off of one another as they took frequent breaks to do small challenges and play games with each other and fans.
The second half of the show flew by with Loossemble making easy work of tracks like “Cotton Candy,” “Confessions,” “Moonlight,” and “Truman Show.”
It was easy to get lost in the music as the group brought their nearly two hour concert to a close. They made it so enticing to snag tickets for their remaining tour stops. Just one show wasn’t enough, as the band finished out the rest of their American dates through October. As the band re-introduce themselves through this new era of Loossemble, it’s clear that they are a group to watch out for. You can listen to Loossemble’s EP TTYL on Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Music.
