If you are an avid fan of the South African genre of amapiano and kwaito, you may be quite familiar with the DJ duo Major League Djz. The dance music duo is a South African household name, who is best known for their live show series coined “Major League Gardens.”

Stepping out of their comfort zone, “Come With Me,” featuring UK singer Jorja Smith, is an electronic dance song released on March 18, 2025. While this genre switch is something unexpected for the DJs, it is done very carefully and artfully. Major League Djz have been eyeing the genre for four years now but wanted to remain true to their sound. Fortunately, “Come With Me” is done just like that. South Africa is no stranger to electronic dance music, so it was a sound the duo was accustomed to. However, despite being comfortable with the sound they decided to utilize their own skills instead of copying what the country is used to.

Taking Over Amapiano

Known for their impact on the genre and their career spanning as far back as the early 2010s, the identical twin brothers Bandile and Banele Mbere have been at the forefront of South African music. The dance musicians thrive in creating powerful beats that prove their country’s musical talent. Most famous for their songs “Ke Shy” and “BAKWA LAH” the group are masters of the craft. However, the two decided to shake things up with their latest release.

The Same, But Different

“Come With Me” screams Major League Djz with its upbeat sound and danceability. The difference comes from the electronic music fused with a softer tone. Jorja’s vocals blend with the song and add a layer to the music similar to other collaborations the brothers have done. Staying true to their sound is evident with the ad-libs and echoing from the vocals along with the slow build into the song’s climax. While the expected amapiano beats aren’t as present, the electronic genre along with their signature African hip-hop fusion sound makes an impact. The song is a perfect introduction to what hopefully is only the beginning of Major League Djz’s electronic releases.
