&TEAM – “Jyuugoya”

For those autumn nights under the moon, “Jyuugoya” is a perfect addition to your playlist. HYBE LABEL JAPAN’s nine-member boy group &TEAM spent 2024 taking listeners on a sonic voyage through each of the four seasons. “Jyuugoya” is the third installment in this series and reflects autumn. “Jyuugoya” marks &TEAM’s second collaboration with British producer David Stewart, who previously worked on BTS’s “Dynamite” and Jungkook’s “3D.” This digital single leads up to &TEAM’s second full album, Yukiakari, which will be released on December 18.

“Jyuugoya” is a pop rock ballad with a nostalgic tinge. &TEAM are no stranger to the bold guitar sound, something they explored in previous tracks like “Under the Skin” and “War Cry.” Rock-esque songs are the perfect vessel for &TEAM’s emotional vocals. They sing, “I was watching the full moon with you / It was like a scene from a movie / We whispered our true feelings to each other / A dream bigger than the moon.” The accompanying music video plays into the full moon motif, a recurring symbol for &TEAM. The nine members are represented as rabbits who embrace each other’s company under the beauty of the full moon. From its heartfelt lyricism to its wholesome animated music video, “Jyuugoya” is pure warmth in this chilly season.

PP Krit – “ขอโทษละกัน (friend to friend)”

PP Krit opens up a vulnerable new chapter with “ขอโทษละกัน (friend to friend),” his second solo single of year to appear on his anticipated mini-album Undress. Crafted by powerhouse producer The Toys, the track explores the fragile line between friendship and love. With lyrics like “if I told you I love you, would it be such a big mistake?” and “my heart just can’t take it any longer,” PP captures the familiar ache of wanting more from a friend while fearing the fallout. The song’s confessional tone builds on the bolder, sensual energy of his March release “เสนอตัว (Ooh!),” showing a softer, more introspective side.

The music video, shot in the romantic streets of Paris during Fashion Week, adds an extra layer of allure, with PP reuniting with Khunpol of T-pop group BUS — his love interest in the hit series I Told Sunset About You. Fans are taken back to their beloved on-screen chemistry as the two navigate the unspoken tension woven into the song’s lyrics. PP teased the release for a week on Instagram, through stories on his Close Friends, letting fans feel like they’re part of his inner circle.

The song and music video leave us without a clear answer on where these friends will end up — perhaps there’s more to the story on Undress?

ØZI, Karencici – “BITE”

@ozifp

One of the best years of my career so far💯 Did my first stadium concert, done a couple dope collabs, and performed at some of the biggest international shows/festivals. Incredibly grateful for everyone that has made my 2023 unforgettable. Happy holidays and see y’all 2024✌️🥂

Taiwanese American singer-songwriter ØZI is steadily rising with each new release. ØZI gained the attention of wider audiences last year with his participation in the viral track “HEARTSTEEL” for League of Legends. However, ØZI has been in the game since 2018, pumping out Mandopop hits. ØZI’s newest digital single, “BITE,” continues this momentum. Released on October 22, “BITE” is a suave EDM track bursting with charisma. The lyrics are forward and seductive, inviting that special someone to “Come and take a bite.”

Chinese American artist Karencici joins forces with ØZI on this new track. This isn’t the first time the two collaborated, as they released the R&B track “U sTuPiD” in 2019. Karencici is best known for her slow-paced, R&B tracks with a Y2K vibe. “BITE” highlights her seductive, buttery vocals on a new soundscape. She hops on during the chorus and takes off in the second verse. The two artists’ vocals melt together, leaving listeners anticipating even more collaborations between these two stars.

tripleS Visionary Vision – “Hit the Floor”

tripleS proves that their charms and talent are limitless in their ninth subunit, tripleS Visionary Vision. tripleS Visionary Vision is dance-oriented, and features twelve members, exactly half of the full tripleS lineup. Their title track, “Hit the Floor,” continues tripleS’s empowering lyricism but this time, paired with a more hip-hop focused sound. “Hit the Floor” is influenced by 90’s hip-hop with its deep bass and sirens, much like H.O.T’s “Warrior’s Descendant” and Seotaiji and Boys’ “COME BACK HOME.” However, “Hit the Floor” fuses a 2024 sound with synths and electronic elements.

tripleS Visionary Vision’s is one of tripleS’s most drastic concept changes. All of the members sport a short haircut and a baggy ensemble. The members fit seamlessly, especially when you pair their styling with the choreography. The chorus choreography embodies the unit’s intention, with bounce-focused, large, and powerful movements. As tripleS continue to dive into new dimensions, WAVs (their fanbase) eagerly await what else is in store.

aespa – “Whiplash”

K-pop group aespa has been on top of the world this year with mega-hits like “Supernova” and “Armaggedon” lighting up the charts (and social media) since dropping in late May. Now the girls are back and fiercer than ever in their latest single, “Whiplash.” Tapping into the electronic dance club genre, “Whiplash” is the group’s most runway-ready track yet, with a pulsating bassline and futuristic synths that bring out the catwalk in all of us. Even the lyrics exude the same type of confidence and attitude supermodels are expected to give, with aespa executing them flawlessly and earning the right to brag a little.

Under pressure, body sweating / Can you focus? / Where I am, can’t stop me / I’m the coldest” Winter sings in the refrain, daring you to do the impossible. NingNing’s line that follows is, “I’m the only game-changer bringin’ the new era,” and honestly, it’s hard to argue with that. Since its debut, aespa has been known for its cutting-edge use of futuristic visuals, sounds, and technology, managing to elevate itself above the rest with a unique concept. With each comeback, aespa continues to evolve and level up to its highest potential, and “Whiplash” is their evolution realized.

Miyavi – “Mirror Mirror”

On October 3, Japanese artist Miyavi released his latest single, “Mirror Mirror” from the album LOST IN LOVE, FOUND IN PAIN. In this electric rock track, MIYAVI struggles with his inner conflicts of feeling hopeless and alone and trying to fight through them. There are lyrics of self-hatred, where it all feels lost and like you’re spiraling out of control. “Stupid, selfish / I’m frozen, no emotion,” he sings in the opening line, the numbness shutting out all logic. However, MIYAVI turns around and seemingly contradicts himself a second later: “All my life, I’m fighting for you / Tell me, how can I hate you x2 / Sorry, I won’t give up on you / No, I won’t give up on you x2.” Although he feels himself slipping away from reality, the singer makes a conscious effort to hold on and not give up.

Between the blaring sound of the guitar and the pounding drums that could penetrate even the most soundproof walls, “Mirror Mirror” offers the listener a way to drown in their sorrows, anger, and frustration before reaching out to finally gasp for air.
