Italian heritage and idiosyncratic design are the cornerstones of luxury brand Prada. Led by one of the most influential duos in the industry, the fashion house flaunts a long history of impeccably adapting to the times. This was particularly evident at the presentation of the brand’s Spring-Summer 2023 Menswear Collection in Milan. But beyond the runway, Prada’s ability to keep up with current times was also visible on its front rows, where the likes of Thai actor Win Metawin and Korean stars Jeong Jaehyun and Song Kang turned into the main protagonists of the event.
Prada Spring-Summer 2023 Collection
Men’s Milan Fashion Week is underway and globally renowned brand Prada unveiled its Spring-Summer 2023 collection on June 19. With the signature imprint of Co-Creative Directors Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, the runway was aptly titled “Prada Choices.” Aptly because the arrangement of classic tailoring mixed flawlessly with more avant-garde looks, in a classical Prada move. As per usual, there were some hints of rock history—likely courtesy of Raf Simons and his well-known love for the genre—as well as Italian sartorial tradition.
However, the more you look at Prada’s latest runway, the more evident the nods to mod fashion become. With a retro revival in full force across the music, entertainment, and fashion industries, the collection presented by Prada and Simons felt particularly timely. There were the finest Italian slim-fit suits, the Harrington jackets, the bold stripe turtlenecks, and the Beatle boots—in short, all of the modernists’ essentials. Meanwhile, on the beauty front, models sported hairstyles and cuts reminiscent of mod icons, The Who. But of course, there was a Prada chic edge too: layered coats, short shorts, checkered pieces, and Symbole bags that are likely to become the trendiest items in upcoming seasons.
VIP Front Rows
In addition to the brand’s ability to remain current and lead trends, Prada proved to be updated with Who’s Who in the world of entertainment. To commemorate their second in-person menswear show after the pandemic, the Italian label tapped an exclusive list of A-list celebrities for the front row. Jeff Goldblum, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Rami Malek were among the celebs that showed up for the fashion event. However, Asian stars—and favorites of the social media crowds—such as Win Metawin, Jeong Jaehyun, and Song Kang stole the spotlight, all decked in full Prada fits.
While NCT member, Jaehyun, channeled his inner rockstar in a look evocative of rock legend Elvis Presley, Korean actor Song Kang opted for a gray broad-shouldered jacket and matching trousers from the Fall 2022 collection. On the other hand, Thai superstar Win Metawin—who has kept social media on fire since his airport departure to Milan—went for a more avant-garde look. Dressed in a bulking yellow trench coat, black trousers, and a Prada Triangle Bag, the actor rubbed shoulders with Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, as well as fellow Asian stars present at the show.
However, the physical front row was just one of the flanks where celebrities supported Prada. From across the world, other popular stars anticipated Prada’s Spring-Summer 2023 Menswear Collection. Just to name a few, K-pop idols Kim Mingyu (SEVENTEEN), Sana (TWICE), Jeon Somi, Juyeon and Younghoon (THE BOYZ), as well as actors Hwang In Youp and Ji Chang-wook took to Instagram to share their best Prada looks.
Prada’s Asian Efforts
One of the key players in the fashion industry, Prada continues to secure its expansion in Asia, particularly in South Korea. In the previous Men’s fashion season, Prada became the top-performing brand at Milan Fashion Week, with Korea ranking as the third-highest MIV (Media Impact Value) generating country. “This is likely due to several famous Korean stars posting Milan FW22 brand-related content,” Launchmetrics stated in a report. The same report revealed actor Song Kang as the top South Korean performer for Prada, generating more than $990K in MIV for the luxury house.
Come the next fashion season, we’ll surely have to look forward to more global stars joining in Prada’s Asian efforts.
