Rosé made her highly-anticipated solo comeback with “APT.” featuring Bruno Mars on October 18. The single marks her first individual release since her solo debut in 2021, as well as her first venture under THEBLACKLABEL and Atlantic Records. With “APT.,” Rosé has begun the long-awaited exploration of her identity and potential as a solo artist.

Meet Me at the APT.

Impossibly fun, personality-packed, and unbelievably catchy, “APT.” paints a picture of whirlwind romance and abundant joy. The song is based on a Korean drinking game by the same name, in which players stack their hands to the chant of “ah-pah-teu” (apartment in Korean). When the chant is done, a player blurts out a number and everyone re-stacks their hands, starting from the bottom-most placement. The last player to replace their hand at the top of the stack has to take a shot. The catchy chant that dominates the song’s introduction and choruses is the same one used to start the namesake game.

Rosé jumps in with smooth, singsongy delivery before the song transitions into the chorus. Then, Bruno responds to her invitation in the second verse. Throughout the song, the two vocalists harmonize seamlessly, symbiotically melding their distinct vocal tones. Similarly, Rosé and Bruno show off their strong friendship in the music video. The chemistry is tantalizing, enamoring viewers to get up and groove along to the infectious beat.

Rosé, Reborn

“APT.” is undeniably only the beginning of Rosé’s solo career — the singer herself confirmed via Instagram that she has much in store. After months of teasing the next addition to her individual discography, the New Zealand-born performer announced her first full-length album on October 1. Coming on December 6, rosie promises to tell the story of Rosé as told — or sung — by her.

Rosé is the third of BLACKPINK’s four members to release music under her own name this year. Each release is a reminder of why BLACKPINK became a K-pop powerhouse: every member owns a unique flair that can thrive in and out of the quartet.
