Fashion brand Sandy Liang and Japanese toy line Monchhichi are joining forces for this year’s cutest collaboration, coming November 1.
In recent years, Sandy Liang has crafted a portfolio of successful projects with other brands. From a limited-edition phone case with Wildflower Cases to bubble tea pop-ups with Hey Tea, the brand has consistently pushed the boundaries for what defines a fashion collaboration. This time around, Sandy Liang is venturing into the world of dolls and toys — an industry that has crossed over to fashion with great success — with an exclusive Monchhichi product.
The Collaboration
The Sandy Liang x Monchhichi is simple: a brand-new Monchhichi doll. ICYMI, Monchhichi is a Japanese line of stuffed monkey toys created in 1974 by the Sekiguchi Corporation. Monchhichi rose to international fame through projects such as a Hanna-Barbera-produced animated series and the French cartoon Kiki, le Kiki de tous les Kiki.
What makes this project special is that Monchhichi has been dressed in head-to-toe Sandy Liang. To announce the collaboration, the brand released a photo shoot with the Monchhichi doll posing with miniature accessories, including infinitely small Sandy Liang shopping bags and the brand’s signature Flower Power scrunchie.
10 Years of Sandy Liang
Sandy Liang was founded in New York City in 2014 by designer Sandy Liang – in the decade since its launch, the brand has become synonymous with soft femininity and nostalgia.
Ten years into the Sandy Liang story, the brand has already become a New York City staple. Nestled in Manhattan’s Chinatown, Sandy Liang is both an ode to Liang’s Chinese heritage and a safe space to embrace femininity. This year, the brand seamlessly aligned with mainstream movements, such as coquette and balletcore. Minimalist ballet flat-inspired footwear, bows and an abundance of frills made Sandy Liang an undeniable trendsetter in 2024.
