In the series “Style Profile,” celebrities exclusively share details of their fashion and beauty with EnVi. In this installment, the members of the K-pop group ARTMS offer a picture of their personal style, sartorial inspirations and must-have items as they embark on their world tour, “Moonshot.”

Kim Lip, vocalist and dancer of K-pop quintet ARTMS, has successfully traversed a range of concepts during her seven-year tenure as a K-pop idol. In her most recent venture, the star has brought her alluring stage presence and addictive vocal tone to <Dall>, ARTMS’ debut album.

In the second installment of EnVi’s Style Profile series, Kim Lip reveals her best hair care tips, approach to personal style and thoughts on confidence.

On Creative Expression

After parting ways with her former agency in 2023, Kim Lip joined the lineup of girl group ARTMS, a project that has marked a fresh start in her career. Leading up to ARTMS’ debut album, the vocalist joined former LOONA bandmates JinSoul and Choerry in the sub-unit Odd Eye Circle and participated in various music videos and performances. Between the trio’s July 2023 mini album and ARTMS’ 2024 pre-releases, Kim Lip has embodied many styling concepts.

For the release of their first album, ARTMS took an ethereal route. Titled “Virtual Angel,” the title track featured Y2K trends and contemporary streetwear to channel the disorienting feeling of something that is both tangibly digital and otherworldly. Every hair, makeup and fashion decision was intentional in creating the final result. “For every comeback, fashion and beauty allow us to express new and different elements of a concept,” Kim Lip shares.

The promotion of <Dall> has been no different. Visual details not only tell a song’s story, but also enable the artist to breathe life into an otherwise sonic universe. For Kim Lip, the styling in physical performances motivates her to show her best to fans and supporters. “I gain confidence when I feel pretty and appear in front of an audience,” she explains. “I think I get to show my best version each time we perform in front of the fans.”

On the Album

As Kim Lip puts it, she has enjoyed performing the concept brought to life in “Virtual Angel” because of its newness. The song stands in striking contrast to previous music releases she has participated in. “Virtual Angel” has a mellifluous, upbeat instrumental and ample opportunities for classic feminine styling that Kim Lip has, for the most part, not explored.

The group also took this styling route when performing the album B-side “Sparkle.” To match the song’s lovestruck harmonies, ARTMS was styled with conventionally feminine details. “We’ve done a lot of concepts that are very impactful, so I want to try doing more concepts that are elegant like ‘Virtual Angel’,” she says.

While she has enjoyed embodying aesthetics from the early aughts, Kim Lip’s favorite song on <Dall> — at least, as of late — has been “Unf/Air.” With its melancholic message and minimalist post-production, “Unf/Air” is markedly different from the record’s title track. “I think if [‘Unf/Air’] were a person, they would be a bit gloomy,” Kim Lip says, a faint smile tugging at her lips. “They would sit pensively, reflecting on their own deep thoughts.”

On Performance Styling

On stage, fashion and makeup elevate Kim Lip’s experience. Off stage, however, style and beauty are much more casual endeavors. Kim Lip shares that she is interested in fashion and keeps up with trends. However, she doesn’t feel pressure to stick to just one look. “Rather than categorizing myself as one particular style, I like to try a lot of different things.” Instead of drawing inspiration from celebrities, the idol trusts her preferences and what she likes to wear. “I like to search for things here and there, and then take what would suit me,” she elaborates.

Kim Lip’s versatility is evident across her many live performances, music videos and photo shoots. From the breezy girly styling of past summer comebacks to intimidating girl crush get-ups, Kim Lip has experimented with a range of looks. One glance at her past concept photos shows that this is particularly true when it comes to hairstyles.

Kim Lip has sported numerous hair colors throughout her career. From the trendy auburn shade she wore during the “Virtual Angel” promotions to the blonde waves she originally debuted with, Kim Lip has frequently transformed her hair. When asked about her best advice for maintaining hair health, Kim Lip laughs. “Actually, my hair is falling out,” she jokes. On a more serious note, she adds, “The best form of haircare is not combing [your hair] through too much, as it can break or fall out. I try to give my hair a lot of nutrition and dry it from scalp to end before going to bed.”
