Some of the world’s biggest stars slip into the finest get-ups for the Academy Awards. Best known as the “Oscars,” the award ceremony marks the end of the “Award Season” — that time of the year when the entertainment industry celebrates the best of music, film and performance.
While the award ceremony is the highlight of the night, when it comes to fashion, the red carpet is equally noteworthy. Maitreyi Ramakrishnan in Zuhair Murad
Never Have I Ever star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan put a twist on all-black gowns with a Zuhair Murad dress off the Spring Summer 2024 collection. The glamorous dress featured a corseted bodice with off-white accents and a large princess skirt with a high slit and an oversized bow at the waist.
Laverne Cox in Thierry Mugler
Styled by Christina Pacelli, E! red carpet presenter Laverne Cox wowed in a vintage Fall Winter 1986 Thierry Mugler dress consisting of a golden bodice with a plunging neckline over a high-waist mermaid-cut skirt. The star paired the vintage look with a custom neck sash by Marco Morante and jewelry from ZYDO Italy, Anabela Chan, Le Vian and Al Zain.
GODZILLA’s Visual Effects Team
Best Visual Effects Nominees, Takashi Yamazaki, Kiyoko Shibuya, Masaki Takahashi and Tatsuji Nojima (GODZILLA), opted for total black ensembles for the red carpet. The Japanese filmmakers and visual effects experts brought a dash of fun to the event, carrying Godzilla figurines during their arrival. The foursome also introduced a small Easter egg for fans of the fictional monster: claw-heeled shoes.
Leah Lewis
Voice actress Leah Lewis from Disney’s Elemental, which is nominated for Best Animated Feature tonight, made her Oscars red carpet debut in a gorgeous light pink gown. Completely wrapped in organza fabric, the dress was sculptured to perfectly accentuate the actress’ figure. She certainly turned heads with this whimsical fairy look as she paired the dress with pointed clear-strap heels. On the beauty side, she opted for a matching light pink eyeshadow look styled with a simple hair updo and diamond earrings.
Nazrin Choudhury
British-Bangladeshi director Nazrin Choudhury, whose film Red, White & Blue is nominated in the Live Action Short Film category, gave a traditional touch to her red carpet look. Repping the name of her debut film, the director sported an embroidered caped gown with off-white and red accents. Beauty-wise, the filmmaker went for a bold red lip and manicure — talk about trendy!
Teo Yoo in Louis Vuitton
Past Lives’ leading man, Teo Yoo, looked dapper in a sophisticated Louis Vuitton tux. The dark blue number featured black accents and was paired with a silver timepiece and matching jewelry. The highlight of his look, however, was a special and heartfelt homage to his late pet, Momo — a silver and blue tortoise brooch that he attached to the lapel of his jacket.
America Ferreira in Atelier Versace
Barbie star and Oscar nominee, America Ferreira, nodded at the Barbiecore trend in a custom metallic dress by Atelier Versace. The look reportedly took 400 hours and seven people to create. As per E!, Versace created 10 different chainmail colors to find the ideal shade of pink for America’s dress. Making a case for rising beauty trends, the actress paired her outfit with a side-parted bob and nude makeup.
Billie Eilish in Chanel
Channeling the preppy schoolgirl trend, Best Original Song nominee, Billie Eilish, stepped out in Hollywood dressed in head-to-toe Chanel. The outfit combined a tweed pencil skirt, a classic white button-up and a black blazer. Adding to the schoolgirl theme Eilish wore white mid-calf socks, patent leather Mary Janes and a Kelly bag. Just like many stars have done at recent award shows, Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell sported red buttons from Artists4Ceasefire.
Celine Song
Past Lives’ writer and director Celine Song stood out among all the crisp black suits on the carpet with an elegant LOEWE set. The all-black ensemble included a double-breasted blazer with an accompanying pleated skirt and black leather shoes. Tonight, the Korean-Canadian director has two nominations under her belt for her first-ever film including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.
Taylor Zakhar Perez in Prada
Light blue is the color of the season and Red, White & Royal Blue star Taylor Zakhar Perez is certainly on board with the trend. The actor sported a Pacific Blue suit with black detailing over a black shirt and bow tie on the red carpet. Don’t we love it when a man opts out of the traditional black suit?
Anya Taylor-Joy in Dior
Taking a break from the Dune: Part 2 promo tour, actress Anya Taylor-Joy stunned in a gray Dior Haute Couture strapless gown. Bedazzled in silver textures, the floor-length skirt encompassed layers of scale-like petals reminiscent of the iconic Christian Dior Junon Dress. The Tiffany & Co ambassador left her hair to free fall over her shoulders to show off an array of platinum and yellow gold diamonds from the jewelry brand. She accompanied these pieces with a Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany ring.
Becky G in Vera Wang
Mexican American singer Becky G’s red-carpet fit proved that you can never go wrong with a corseted dress. Putting a sultry twist on Hollywood glamour, the star’s dress featured a strapless bustier embellished with crystals and a hand-draped skirt. The look was gorgeously paired with long gloves and a stylish ‘90s blowout. Becky, who recently made waves at New York Fashion Week, is set to perform “The Fire Inside” (from the Oscar-nominated Flamin’ Hot OST) at the award ceremony.
Michelle Yeoh in Balenciaga
After her historic win for Best Actress at the 68th Academy Awards, Michelle Yeoh graced this year’s carpet in a glittering two-toned silver (and pewter) dress embellished with thousands of sequins. Expanding on the chic movie star look, the actress wore a pair of classic black opera gloves and black satin stilettos to match the dazzling Balenciaga gown. The design featured a single shoulder, a cowl neckline and a train. To complete the outfit, she wore a pair of Diamond Foliage Earrings by Cindy Chao.
Lupita Nyong’o in Prada
Embodying siren energy, Kenyan-Mexican Lupita Nyong’o actress looked radiant in a light blue gown by Prada. The dazzling number was covered in silver sequins and featured feathers around the waistline and hem. As a De Beers brand ambassador, Lupita completed her look with diamond drop earrings, a bracelet, and several rings.
