Miu Miu has been taking the fashion world by storm, captivating people within the industry and outside of it. Fall/Winter 2021
The snowy mountains of the Dolomites were the perfect setting for the reveal of Miu Miu’s Fall Winter 2021 collection. In a press screening for the event, head designer Miuccia Prada explained the reasoning behind the setting and gave a glimpse into her past, “I remember being young, when it was hot, and you’d go skiing in your bikini. It looks strange, but in the end, it’s not.” This personal tidbit was not only conveyed through words but through the collection in a mix of ski wear and lingerie, creating looks that juxtapose each other. For example, large faux fur boots are paired with see-through tops and knitted scarfs with padded bras and bodices. With this runway, Miu Miu combines the comfort of warm outerwear and the raciness of negligee to create a new form of winter style.
All of the looks in this collection were stand out ensembles but the one that turned heads the most was the oversized quilted ski jacket and trousers. Paired with a knitted balaclava and appearing in multiple colors, this set has been making waves on the internet. Spring/Summer 2022
Miu Miu took us from the snow covered mountains to the hustle and bustle of the office as they focused more on corporate looks in their Spring/Summer 2022 collection. However, this was work attire with a twist. Collared shirts and chunky knit sweaters were cropped to show off midriff. Low rise bottoms came back with a vengeance on the runway as models walked around in short skirts and oversized trousers and bermuda shorts. Frayed edges and pocket linings were on full display. With their Spring/Summer collection, Miu Miu showcased a more youthful, sexy version of the business casual aesthetic that managed to coincide with the reemergence of Y2K fashion. Their version of office-wear is less clean cut and more daring. When it was time to discuss the collection, Miuccia Prada proclaimed “It’s so normal, but for me it’s so strange. Strange is not strange anymore.”
Looks from the Spring/Summer collection have been worn by multiple celebrities and influencers such as Lexie Liu, Song Naeun and more recently SNSD’s Lim Yoona for Elle magazine. The shoes at Miu Miu have also been gaining traction alongside their clothing, especially their boots. The Italian fashion brand’s leather biker boots have managed to find their way on stage after being worn by aespa member WINTER, perfectly complimenting the rest of her outfit. They have also been seen on Sunmi and Dua Lipa, both known and praised for their exceptional style. In addition, large fur boots from the Fall/Winter 2021 collection have also been making the rounds in the fashion world, even appearing in photoshoots for W Korea.
