WONHO Returns with Fourth Mini Album “CORE”
Following his last comeback, Syndrome, WONHO is back to share a new emotional journey through self-reflection and growth. Debuting his fourth mini album, CORE, on July 21st, the soloist is turning heads with seven brand-new tracks and a music video. Known for his powerful vocals and genre-blurring music, WONHO reveals a side of his emotions we’ve never seen before.
CORE tells the story of an exploration of vulnerability, concealed emotions, and self-acceptance. Embracing the aspects that make him human, WONHO takes listeners through the different stages of his journey, one that many can relate to.
A Ride to Dreamland
The album opens with the title track “Don’t Wake Me Up!”, a song that seamlessly blends dance-pop and EDM. Built around the desire to remain in a fantasy and escape reality, WONHO sings, “If this is wrong, let me be wrong all night, / If I fall right now, don’t wake me up.” The track sustains its dreamlike atmosphere through layered synths and pounding bass, capturing a sense of pure euphoria. With a beat drop reaching the track’s climax, WONHO’S vocals rail into an addictive hook:“Don’t wake me up.”
Contributing to the composition, arrangement, and lyrics, WONHO continues the album’s emotional storyline with “Answer.” Shifting the focus to a complicated relationship filled with uncertainty and longing, the track serves as a response to a partner who isn’t meeting him halfway, leaving behind more questions than answers. Masking his feelings of helplessness beneath an upbeat yet laid-back electronic production, WONHO repeatedly pleads, “Give me the answer,” while searching for clarity and confronting the possibility of the relationship’s end. He asks, “Tell me what you’re seeking, tell me what you’re feeling. / Are we almost over?” Within the album’s overarching narrative, “Answer” feels like the relationship’s cracking moment, pushing through the last of hope.
Running Back to You
Continuing the intimate journey of the album, “Can’t Get Enough” expands on the narrative of the previous track, exploring the lingering desire that intensifies long after love has ended. The track highlights WONHO’s vocals as he dives into the chorus with the repeated line, “I can’t get enough of you,” showcasing his impressive vocal range through high notes that blend seamlessly with the bright and upbeat production. As one of only two tracks on the album to surpass the three-minute mark, “Can’t Get Enough” smoothly passes the torch to “Summer Blue.”
Embracing a softer sound, “Summer Blue” offers a different vibe to the tracklist. The album shifts away from its high-energy tracks toward a city pop-inspired sound as “Summer Blue” slows the tempo with a steady drum groove and dreamy synth textures, evoking warmth and bittersweet nostalgia for memories that refuse to fade. WONHO reflects on those lingering emotions as he sings, “3 AM, one dawn I wrote this song, ‘Summer Blue, / I swear it by the sun and moon, I’ll still belong to you.”
Head to the Dancefloor!
Bouncing back to the electronic vibe, WONHO surprises fans with “DOWN,” originally part of his “Stay Awake Tour” setlist. The track brings a house-inspired production to the tracklist, now luring that significant other into a more intimate moment in their possible relationship. WONHO sings, “Caught in the moment and we’ve just begun / Give me that rush, I can’t deny,” moving away from the hidden feelings and self-doubt. “DOWN” brings the confidence and cheekiness of WONHO back, knowing that this moment will be forever remembered and be part of something worth looking forward to.
Heading towards the ending of the tracklist, “Test Drive” keeps the same momentum of the dance-pop genre and its upbeat energy. Expanding on the feeling of meeting someone new and starting a fresh new adventure in this relationship, the track embraces the journey ahead despite its uncertainty and the fear of what could come. Like a first-time drive, “Test Drive” moves ahead with caution and excitement, keeping its signals on and its seatbelts fastened.

Closing out the album is “Promises (feat. BrotherSu).” A twist on the electronic and dance-pop-inspired tracks heard throughout the album, the R&B track highlights the powerful vocals of both soloists and is accompanied by groovy synths and bass-heavy beats. With its slower, more sensual tone, the song offers comfort and reassurance through the promises made to a significant other. Blending BrotherSu’s voice into a flawless transition with WONHO’s, the duo harmonizes as they repeatedly sing the song’s title. “Promises” wraps up the album by bringing its core concept full circle, showcasing the singers’ most authentic selves through genuine love and sincere intentions.
