XG – “DEPENDS”

In the heat of their North American tour junket, powerhouse global septet XG dropped their newest single, “DEPENDS.” The song is rooted in nostalgia from its late 2000s to early 2010s electropop driven sound to their bold 1980s-inspired getups. Member COCONA even shouts out the influential 1980s album, Control, by musical pioneer Janet Jackson: “Taking back control, like Janet / This my Jimmy Jam, I don’t ask, I demand it.” However, XG add a modern flair to these throwback vibes with their unique flows and R&B harmonies.
It was revealed in a press release that “DEPENDS” was built around the idea of “human emotions and choices don’t always come down to YES or NO.” This theme is also reflected in the delightfully strange music video as XG explore a new world beyond the limitations of the camera. Each of the seven members also uncover a unique creature that represents themselves, reflecting how XG are incomparable forces. “DEPENDS” reflects XG’s ownership of their artistry — refusing to make compromises and acknowledging the strength that comes with their individuality.
Rocco – “Girl Next Door”
The latest addition to his streak of bimonthly releases, Rocco presents “Girl Next Door,” a playful indie rock track. He built up excitement for the release, releasing a teaser to set the scene for his love story between him and his neighbor. After forgetting to ask for a girl’s name, Rocco finds himself frantic. As he asks his friends about her in the music video, he finds himself at a loss. Everyone is too busy flirting or falling in love to try and offer Rocco any advice. Just as he’s losing hope, he finds his crush walking into the house party a few hours later.
Despite Rocco’s realization of his feelings, he claims his crush is oblivious to his advances. Still, Rocco isn’t one to be shy on the sidelines. He notices how others vie for her attention, but confidently proposes she give him one chance. “I know how it’s looking, but I’m doing more than bleeding / But I think that the thought of you and me is worth believing,” he declares. Despite their differences, Rocco wants a future together, and communicates so earnestly.
Olivia Rodrigo – “take me home (4 christmas)”

After a multitude of accolades and achievements, GRAMMY award-winning singer-songwriter, Olivia Rodrigo, is ready to take on a new milestone — her first ever holiday single. “take me home (4 christmas)” is shaping up to be a new Christmas classic as it combines Rodrigo’s musical genius with the holiday season. Without compromising her signature sound, Rodrigo fuses pop-rock with jingle bells and a fun, carol-like post-chorus melody. Rodrigo’s clever lyricism takes center stage once again as she describes the thrill and subsequent awkwardness of being introduced to your partner’s family during the holidays.
She cheerfully sings in the relatable chorus: “I want you to take me home / Take me home to your parents’ house / I want you to take me home / Show me serious commitment.” The track also includes multiple self-referential lyrics to her previous releases like “girl i’ve always been” and “drop dead” — adding an extra layer of fun for her fanbase.
BE:FIRST – “NOW U KNOW”

Taking Japanese excellence to the world stage, boy group BE:FIRST have been on a winning streak this year as they celebrate their fifth anniversary. BE:FIRST kept this momentum going with their fourth full-length album, BE:4U. The 13-track album features new tracks, unit songs, and already loved hits — making it an essential project in BE:FIRST’s kaleidoscopic catalogue. BE:4U’s opener, “NOW U KNOW,” is BE:FIRST at their finest — an anthemic modern reinterpretation of old school West Coast hip-hop that showcases their performance abilities. Whether it’s addictive rap flows or powerful vocal belts, BE:FIRST know exactly how to ride a beat like this to the fullest.
In line with their fifth anniversary, BE:FIRST explain how they’ve grown into the global artists they are today: “Didn’t get here overnight / My skills are stacked Fuji-high / Holding back’s a sin, so I live large / Less whining, more grinding / Way up.” If you weren’t familiar with BE:FIRST and everything they’re capable of, after taking a listen to this track you can confidently say that “NOW YOU KNOW.”
P1Harmony – “BLOW UP”

K-pop superheroes, P1Harmony, have come back to complete their final mission on Earth. Their newest album, BLOW UP, draws their hero storyline to a close. While P1Harmony are awarded for their world-saving-efforts in the opening scene, the music video also shows their journey beforehand. For the first act, each member is shown integrating their supernatural abilities to protect their local community. The second act shows P1Harmony come together to strategize for their final mission, testing their own abilities together. Once they find their rhythm, they save the world without ever losing their smiles.
As the title track, “BLOW UP,” sends a message of hope with a hyperpop sound. “Whatever you say we danced on the rope / Even when my breath stops, again, camera roll,” declares INTAK. United as one team, P1Harmony have the confidence to conquer their previous achievements and shoot for the stars. Outside of their hero world, the sextet continues to make waves in the music scene. The group recently headlined the inaugural 82World: LA festival in October, proving how their energy is loved by audiences. P1Harmony channel their lively spirit as they invite listeners to join in on the fun in the outro. “Come on dance, what you doin’,” they call out. “Surrender yourself, feel the drum, when I / Blow it up, blow it up, blow it up.”
Midnight Generation – “To Be Someone”

Chihuahua-born band Midnight Generation are explaining what it means to be Rooted. Despite how the band has gone on to play festivals around the globe, they never forget their Mexican pride. “We carry the desert with us, along with the people who first taught us what love was and a language and culture that stay with us wherever we go,” answered frontman Fernando Mares. “For us, staying rooted means being someone for the people we love. Rooted is remembering what holds you up.”
Rooted’s lead single, “To Be Someone,” captures the simple joys in being a support system. As an album wholly produced by Fernando Mares, the band’s lyrics become a love letter to all that have established their roots. Childhood pictures of the band members flash through, before cutting to shots of Midnight Generation in front of large audiences. From their childhood dreams to realized performances, the band thanks all for contributing to their journey. “What a coincidence to be alive / To be someone for you,” they harmonize in the chorus. Midnight Generation flow from a mellow synth beat into a funky and electronic interlude between verses. The two moods blend seamlessly, allowing room for sentimentality and energy to dance along. Captivated by Midnight Generation’s groovy rhythms? Catch them on their upcoming tour and performances in 2027!
UNCHILD – “TiNG TiNG”

Rookie girl group UNCHILD returned this week with “TiNG TiNG,” the title track from their second digital single of the same name. The six-member multinational group, made up of members from South Korea, Japan and China, debuted earlier this year and has quickly built attention around its playful, high-energy sound and colorful visual identity. “TiNG TiNG” leans into French house, layering repetitive loops, heavy kicks and bass with mechanical synths, bright electronic accents and the track’s recurring “TiNG TiNG” hook.
xikers – “DIENAMITE”

Xikers are reawakening punk rock with their eighth mini-album, ROUTE ZERO: THE CALLING. Knowing they have each other, this ten-member ensemble is fearlessly setting out on a new musical journey. “DIENAMITE” is completely self-produced by MINJAE, with lyrics written alongside YECHAN and SUMIN. The music video shows the members ghost hunting in an abandoned barn after following a band of spirits. Though graffiti sprayed on the walls claim “PUNK IS DEAD,” xikers sets out to prove the notion wrong.
The ten members create their own stage in the barn, jamming out despite their only audience being ghosts. “Tick, tock, hesitate too long and I’m out of control,” they warn in the refrain. “Don’t make me boom like a dynamite.” Equipped with confidence and a bold sound, xikers show they refuse to mold their ambitions to society. As frequent experimenters with their music style, xikers are no strangers to the countercultural nature of punk. Woven into the rap lyrics from the second verse and a scene digging up iconic rock vinyls from a grave, they show their immersion into the genre. xikers’ rock spirit even revives Lee Seungwoo, frontman of South Korea’s first punk rock band, No Brain.
Sun Burnette – “One Way Ticket”
Your newest indie-pop obsession has arrived with Sun Burnette’s “One Way Ticket.” The Filipino Mexican musical duo based in San Diego continue their streak of honest narratives and nostalgia-fueled textures in this single. “One Way Ticket” contains the heartwarming energy of a romantic comedy and coming of age movie within its shimmering synth-pop sound. The pair’s soft vocals are the perfect companion to the song’s laid-back groove. They sing in the chorus: “I’m stuck on a moving train / Wish I could find a way to get to you / If I’m playing a losing game / That’s okay I got no clue.”
“One Way Ticket” is a yearner’s anthem, and this sentiment is doubled in the accompanying music video. The duo described the music video as a “queer Filipino romcom” with its relatable storytelling and a twist at the end that many queer hopeless romantics may be familiar with. If you can’t get enough of Sun Burnette and their endless charms, you’re in luck because “One Way Ticket” arrives ahead of their upcoming EP, Heaven is a Ruse.
Ae!group – “Emotion”

Japanese four-member band Ae!group leans further into its rock side with “Emotion,” the title track of their fourth single. Built around a hard-hitting band arrangement, the song pairs member Seiya Suezawa’s high register vocals with guitar, bass, and drums as the members take on some of their most demanding instrumentation yet. Lyrically, “Emotion” centers on moving forward while accepting your imperfections and choosing to look at mistakes and the unfinished version of yourself as a reason to keep pushing rather than hold back. The song was conceived with live performance in mind and designed so that the audience’s voices can help complete it.
Cécil Yang – “CINGCONG”

Indonesian singer Cécil Yang has had enough of empty promises (haven’t we all) on her new single “CINGCONG.” Leaning further into a hip-hop sound, Yang turns a personal experience with someone who talked big but rarely followed through, in a song detailing a universally relatable sentiment that can apply just as easily to friendships and family as it does romance. “This song comes from my experience meeting someone who made a lot of promises and talked a lot, but never took real action,” Yang said in a press release. “After a while, I felt sick. It turns out, things like this don’t just happen in romantic relationships, but can also happen with friends, family, or best friends.” She also uses more Indonesian throughout the track, bringing the frustration behind the lyrics closer to the language of everyday conversations. That same idea carries into the visualizer, which features professional freestyle footballers around Jakarta as a nod to people who let their skills and hard work speak for themselves.
Other tracks in this week’s Sunday Spin playlist include “With” by RESCENE, Lil Baby’s “Mr. Do Something,” “Someone to Hold” by JENNIE, and Chxrry and Rema’s “Big Shot,” Listen to everything mentioned and more, curated by Team EnVi only for you on Spotify.
