This week is filled with emerging artists making a statement and established names making a grand comeback, turning this mid-July weekend into a dance party you’ll never forget.
GIRLSET – “CHAT”
“Chat, can you see us?” is what GIRLSET kept repeating in a cryptic video posted a week before the release of their highly anticipated single, “CHAT.” After releasing “Little Miss” and “Tweak,” fans were eager to find out what direction the four-member girl group, consisting of Camila, Lexi, Kendall, and Savanna, would take in their new era. An homage to a word used constantly during livestreams and gaming streams, “CHAT” is a play on the term, with the members singing about how those who hate on them will always be brushed off. The girls sing, “Eyes on me, it’s all eyes on me / I’m like fantasy, you go wild, wild, wild / when I’m in the chat,” and “Watch me in the chat, yeah, I know you stalkin’.” A track aimed at inspiring confidence and keeping listeners chanting “CHAT,” it combines hyperpop influences and an electronic sound we haven’t heard from the group before.
The music video brings fans into an alternate reality where the girls are video game characters being livestreamed. In a series of montages, the members go from meeting each other in the game lobby to running freely around the city and hyping up the crowd that has gathered around them. The entire time, the chat on the side of the music video raves about the members and their dance moves.
GIRLSET is set to promote their new single across American cities in the coming weeks, with New York and Los Angeles in the lineup.

beabadoobee – “Switchblade”
Leaning into a heavy punk rock sound, beabadoobee is establishing a new path for herself with “Switchblade.” Her earlier single, “Sun Has Set,” was just as gritty, but had the twist of vocal stretch and surprising note switches, keeping listeners on their toes. In contrast, “Switchblade” is very steady in nature while the lyrics contemplate whether it is better to engage in a fight or walk away. As the lyrics circle and repeat each other throughout the three-minute track, their emphasis becomes all the more prominent.
Driving this idea, the pre-chorus blends into the chorus as beabadoobee chants, “Do you start the fight or take the flight? / Is it wrong or right to try to / Either seether with this anger? / Can’t control this fever.” The song doesn’t apply to one situation in particular and rather asks the listener to look deeper into their own beliefs and problems. When faced with higher authority, conversations, or situations that contradict their beliefs, are listeners prepared to fight and express their anger, or are they going to walk away?

Wasia Project – “Whale Call”
Consisting of siblings Will Gao and Olivia Hardy, Wasia Project have released another single off of their upcoming album Nocturne titled “Whale Call.” This somber single wasn’t dropped as direct promo for their debut album; instead, it was released alongside the film Heartstopper Forever, in which Will Gao plays complicated yet hilarious Tao Xu. The duo have previously been included on the Heartstopper soundtrack in Season Two with their single “ur so pretty,” which led to a highly emotional and viral moment. Their inclusion in the finale of the coming-of-age series feels very full circle for both fans of Wasia Project and Heartstopper alike.
In an email to fans, Wasia Project described “Whale Call” through the writer’s lens. “The song explores the loneliness of watching someone you care about seem closer to someone else, and trying to reach out or reconnect with them, but simultaneously finding pain in the connection itself,” the pair explained. “It’s a reflection of sitting in the midst of the two, and the quiet spiral of distance from yourself that both feelings can evoke.” As Heartstopper fans watch the main characters Charlie and Nick experience a daunting push and pull in their relationship, “Whale Call” brings them home to each other, prepared to face whatever problems may come.

grentperez – “satellite”
This week, grentperez took a break from his Hawaiian vacation – which also featured two special shows – to bless fans with song four off his upcoming project, g00se, “satellite.”With groovy percussion keeping time with his sweet message, Perez sings of him and his love circling each other no matter how much space is in between them, like two satellites floating in the sky. The crooner’s voice adds sunshine and twang to the track, with horns emphasizing the vocal statements.
While the song was originally started around five years ago, it has now found its home around the other love songs of g00se. To give fans insight into the meaning, Perez took to Genius and wrote, “Satellite is a song of wonder and dreams, to be engrossed in the company of another person, as if the world could melt away and you wouldn’t even mind. I wrote this song during a pretty stressful time when a lot was changing, and life felt like it was starting to move really fast. […] I really love the key change in the middle. This song feels like a big ol hug.” While g00se has no definitive release date, it’s evident that Perez is having a great time enjoying his newest project with fans.

PABLO – “USAD”
The leader of P-pop powerhouse unit SB19 is forging his path as a soloist with the honest “USAD.” PABLO’s “USAD” is an uplifting pop song with an R&B tinge for those looking for a spark of inspiration in their lives. On the day of the song’s release, PABLO took to X to share the track’s hopeful intentions: “Sometimes you even wonder if all the effort is worth it. But not all progress is visible right away. There are things that need to be developed in you before what’s meant for you comes […]. The time will come when you will understand why you have to go through all this. That’s progress.”
“USAD” describes PABLO’s unwavering resilience as an artist — but ultimately, it carries a universal message of motivation. PABLO repeats in the gospel-like chorus: “Moving forward / To the future / But not right away.” Despite the journey’s difficulties, PABLO’s persistence is what carries him to his destination, no matter where it may be.

ONE OR EIGHT – “YANKEE SQUAT”
ONE OR EIGHT continues to fuse Japanese culture with a sonic modern flair with their latest release, “YANKEE SQUAT.” The title is in reference to a signature pose associated with “yankee” subculture — delinquents who rebel against the status quo. When they pop a squat on the street, they are making a statement of defiance. “YANKEE SQUAT” represents how ONE OR EIGHT defy standards with their relentless ambition and distinct individuality. This attitude might be misunderstood, but it’s what propels them as global artists. They sing in the bridge: “Lookin’ from the outside / They just wanna see us play the bad guy / That’s the life we livin’ in the limelight / For a lifetime.”
The song is a high-energy EDM hip-hop fusion that invites listeners to dance — and maybe even hit a “YANKEE SQUAT.” Not only does the pose carry a deeper meaning that resonates with ONE OR EIGHT, it also serves as the focal point for the song’s choreography as well as its music video. “YANKEE SQUAT” arrives as the pre-release single for their highly-awaited first EP, EN-GÏNE, making the track a solid introduction for the octet’s new era.

Tinashe – “Crash Out”
Tinashe is no stranger to the limelight, and in her latest release, this life sometimes makes her want to “Crash Out.” This song is the next single to arrive from her upcoming album, Popstar, which is shaping up to be a commentary on what it is like to be an entertainer. On the bass-heavy beats of “Crash Out,” Tinashe dives into the toxicity that can plague a public figure. She dishes out in the first verse: “It’s overrated, in a city full of people tryna make it / The American dream is outdated / Now they sitting on the Internet hating.” Tinashe understands her magnitude as an artist — as we saw in the confident “Too Easy” — but just like everyone else, no one is immune to scrutiny and rumors. After over a decade of consistently delivering as a singer-songwriter and dancer, Tinashe is at her limit when it comes to responding to her haters with kindness. However, nothing is going to stop Tinashe from showcasing her talent; if anything, it’s fuel for this unstoppable starlet.

Rachel Bochner – “Say That You Don’t”
Brooklyn-based indie artist Rachel Bochner is inviting listeners to dive into the aftermath of heartbreak this summer with her latest single, “Say That You Don’t.” Exploring the regret and guilt that can follow the end of a relationship, the song serves as an ode to still caring for someone who was once such an important part of your life. With the repeating hook, “Say that you don’t, you don’t think about me,“ the track pairs an upbeat yet gentle melody with shimmering synths and a steady drumbeat.
In a press release, Rachel shared, “In the wake of my break up, I was consumed by guilt. Staying was not an option, but leaving came with the price of hurting someone I still cared so deeply for — who still cared so deeply for me. I couldn’t help but indulge myself with the inherently selfish fantasy of ‘Say That You Don’t.’ If I could snap my fingers and make all the hurt and lingering love they feel disappear… would it alleviate my guilt?”
Feeling almost like an apology, the track is a heartfelt message to anyone navigating the complicated emotions that follow a breakup. Wishing an ex-partner the best after sharing such an intimate chapter of your life is never easy, but Rachel reminds us that moving through these difficult emotions is part of the healing process.

Kiki – “Wait a Minute”
Get to the dance floor and grab your crush! Kiki is back to keep us dancing the night away with their latest single, “Wait A Minute.” The Bangkok-based alternative indie trio, consisting of Helen, Boss, and Non, is making audiences fall in love and feel a little overwhelmed by the intense infatuation that comes with a newfound crush. Singing, “I think I really need to say it / Wait a minute, I think I’m really falling for you” and “Guess I’m hypnotized by the spiral in your eyes / You could tell me lies while I’m dreaming like there’s no surprise,” the trio keeps things fun and full of summer romance. Driven by a steady bassline and upbeat synths that brighten the mood, the track transports listeners into the exhilarating feeling of having a crush.
The music video, which takes a comedic approach to the track, could double as a romcom movie. We follow a runaway bride who appears to be escaping from a groom wearing a horse mask. Kiki appears between scenes, acting almost like musical guests narrating the bride and groom’s chaotic love story. With its cheeky charm, “Wait A Minute” invites listeners to embrace their delusions, because everyone needs a little crush from time to time. This summer, you can catch Kiki on their Japan and Taiwan tour.
