California-based Latina-Filipina duo The Two Lips have blossomed in the hearts of many over the past two years, but for them, this is only the beginning. After releasing seven songs, the pair hit viral stardom โ€” and have maximized every second of it. They released their debut EP, girl, cโ€™mon!, only two years into their career, and are about to set off on part three of their Kiss and Tell tour to meet more of their fans, whom theyโ€™ve dubbed Petals.

While they work behind the scenes to fuel our playlists, itโ€™s the perfect time to catch up and learn who the faces behind The Two Lips are. Without further ado, meet Andrea and Jewlz of The Two Lips!

1. As Fate Would Have It

Jewlz and Andrea grew up in the same area and were even in the same school district. At this point in their lives, they werenโ€™t in each otherโ€™s friendship circles and never had the chance to speak with each other in person. Instead, the pair were online mutuals who admired each otherโ€™s style, humor, and music taste. It wasnโ€™t until Lizzy McAlpine toured near them that the two first talked. Andrea saw a tweet from Jewlz about wanting to go to the concert, but having no one to go with. Andrea was in the same situation, so she reached out. During the concert, they danced, sang, and connected over all their similar passions and hobbies. Just like that, theyโ€™ve been best friends since.

After that night, the pair began hanging out increasingly often, though they were still making music with other people โ€” specifically men. One day, they began working on a song together for fun. Something clicked. It was a โ€œbreath of fresh air to be [making music] with another woman,โ€ said Andrea. They found they were able to understand each other on a deeper level. Suddenly, the music started to flow, and they began creating. Some of the first music they made is on Soundcloud, but they made their official solo debut on Spotify with โ€œdo you even know?โ€

2. Blooming Into The Two Lips

Soon after they began creating songs, Andrea and Jewlz realized they needed a name. They looked at their personalities, styles, and music, and decided that they wanted something that reflected those qualities without needing a big explanation. They started creating a list of monikers that were both feminine and fun, resulting in possible names such as โ€œThe Girls.โ€

Jewlz ended up going through common words and phrases used in the pairโ€™s messages and saw the tulip emoji, which they exchanged a lot in texts since they both thought it was cute. Jewlz came up with the name โ€œThe Tulips.โ€ Unfortunately, as they started to get more serious about continuing with their music, they found the name was already taken. Still attached to the idea, they brainstormed and came up with โ€œThe Two Lipsโ€ โ€“ the same name, but with a new meaning. Now, tulips, a pair of lips, and, of course, the two girls themselves, can be seen across the duoโ€™s videos, photos, and branding.

3. Putting A Melody To Emotion

It only takes one listen to find that the common denominator throughout The Two Lipsโ€™ discography lies in feminine experience and relationships. The inspiration doesnโ€™t just come from their own lives, but also the ones they surround themselves with.

โ€œItโ€™s literally just whatever weโ€™re going through at the time โ€ฆ we always say it starts with a feeling,โ€ said Jewlz. They both have committed to being honest and open with each other, and thatโ€™s given them a common ground of emotions and experiences. This has resulted in songs about breakups, fading friendships, and feeling overwhelmed by imperfections. Since they have felt validated through music, Andrea and Jewlz hope to gift that experience to listeners as well.

Through watching films and shows and listening to other artists, the duo also allows themselves to live empathetically through and draw from the experiences of others. Theyโ€™re both heavy repeat playlist listeners, which has influenced the development of their sound. โ€œWeโ€™re definitely the type of people who listen to the same ten songs every couple of weeks,โ€ said Jewlz. โ€œWhen we get into the studio, we use some of those songs as reference tracks for the producer.โ€

Additionally, Andrea and Jewlz also consider the types of playlists their songs might fit into, asking if this were a playlist, what would it be called? If this song were in a movie, what would happen in the scene? All these elements come together to create the cinematic masterpieces that their audience listens to today.

4. Creating Their Visual World

Before signing to a label, The Two Lips made music videos with their earnings from playing shows and selling merch. Their first music video was for their viral song, โ€œstill love you (todavรญa).โ€ It opens with them putting on makeup while saying their pre-show chant: โ€œTulips do not die slowly in a vase,โ€ a reference to an Omar Apollo song. Thirty-five seconds in, the viewer sees them in full clown makeup and performing on a stage. An idea conceived by Andrea, the clown makeup represents being a fool for someone in a situation where they know they should leave, but still donโ€™t walk away. The amphitheater setting was Jewlzโ€™s idea, and plays off the idea of being on display to someone and putting on a show to keep them interested.

Now that The Two Lips are signed to a label, they have had the opportunity to create their first official music video with a full crew. The video is for the track โ€œif you said,โ€ one of their favorite songs in their discography. With fast flying cars and a bright, futuristic cityscape, the video is directly inspired by the music video for โ€œ2 Become 1โ€ by the Spice Girls. The dreamlike video began a new visual journey for the girls that became incorporated in the visuals for their EP, with a cosmic track list reveal and hazy, atmospheric lyric videos.

5. The Girls Behind the Music

Behind the lyrics and aesthetic videos are two girls with relatable personalities. According to Jewlz, Andrea is bubbly and cutesy, but falls in love really easily and becomes head over heels for someone after the first date. In Andreaโ€™s eyes, Jewlz is very strong-willed and talented, but can also be really stubborn โ€” something Andrea views as both a red flag and a green flag, since Jewlzโ€™s grounded personality has taught Andrea to stand up for herself more. As friends, the duo freely give advice to each other and have very similar mindsets. Andrea is older than Jewlz by a year, but she is the youngest sibling in her family, while Jewlz is the oldest sibling in hers, which means that the age gap balances out. They have also come to realize that they mesh so well together due to similar mindsets in terms of maturity and the line between work and play.

Another reason their personalities might be so aligned could be because of their astrological connection. Andrea is a Scorpio sun, Aquarius moon, and Gemini rising, while Jewlz is a Taurus sun, Leo moon, and Scorpio rising. While they donโ€™t fully live their lives according to their star signs, they both agree that being a water sign and an earth sign has allowed them to get along very well.

6. Beauty Queens and Fashion Fiends

As theyโ€™ve evolved their sound over time, the pair has done the same with their wardrobe. Both Andrea and Jewlz are thrift enthusiasts with a love for vintage and second-hand pieces. Jewlz is a self-proclaimed vintage purse collector and an all-around shoe lover. Her favorite purse of 2025 was her vintage Prada Bowling Bag, but her other favorites include the Balenciaga City Bag and a pink Balenciaga 2way. Jewlzโ€™s overall style tends to have darker tones compared to Andreaโ€™s, which is reflected in both their signature looks and coordinating concert outfits.

Andrea has always welcomed fans to find out more about her hair and makeup routine. Andreaโ€™s mom owns a hair salon, so throughout her music career, she has had many hair colors, including orange, purple, blonde, and an iconic pink. Andrea styles her hime cut inward to frame her cheeks โ€” which sheโ€™s said she uses a mix of two to three blushes on to achieve the perfect pink. One of Andreaโ€™s many talents is crocheting, so if you see her wearing something crocheted, she just may have made it herself.

Since they love supporting small and local businesses, The Two Lipsโ€™ tour outfits also consist of some specially curated pieces. The duo wears a lot of statement necklaces from Stinky Jewelz or Dollhouse Treasures, and uses custom-made hats from Chikas Arsenal to add to their occasional sailor girl aesthetic. Andrea and Jewlz are committed to individualism expressed through fashion and beauty, and encourage their fans to do the same โ€” whether thatโ€™s through shopping small or trying out a new style while attending one of The Two Lipsโ€™ shows.

7. A Love For Animation

Everyone needs downtime away from their job. When Jewlz and Andrea are relaxing away from work, itโ€™s often with Adventure Time or Steven Universe. Both women love the brightly colored animation, fun characters, and bubbly soundtracks, and try to incorporate these elements into their own style and music. So when they had the chance to work with Rebecca Sugar, the creator of Steven Universe and an artist and songwriter for Adventure Time, they jumped at the opportunity. The resulting song, โ€œhappy for me,โ€ was even produced by Rebecca Sugarโ€™s producer, Jeff Ball.

Reflecting on the experience on Instagram, Jewlz said, โ€œWriting a song with these absolute legends was one of the craziest things to happen in our livesโ€ฆAll I wanted was a song that sounds like itโ€™d fit in those shows, and it definitely does that. This song holds so many sweet memories that we will never ever forget.โ€ The next day, the official lyric video came out โ€” featuring animated characters of The Two Lipsโ€™ very own!
