French label Jacquemus returned to Paris on December 12 to showcase its newest collection, “Le Raphia.” Helmed by Simon Porte Jacquemus, the co-ed collection comes just in time for the upcoming shift into the Spring 2023 season.
Le Raphia
Le raphia, the collection’s namesake, is the raffia palm. If that sounds familiar, it’s because raffia is one of fashion’s favorite materials to work with in the summer — everything from hats to tote bags has been produced in this course medium. As models walked down the circular runway, a raffia rain descended gently from the ceiling.
Jacquemus’ “Le Raphia” plays on the palm derivative with its color palette, which is dominated by white and off-white tones. As is the norm for Jacquemus, the designer also introduced flamboyant shades throughout, with hints of lavender, pops of red, and even a full orange ensemble shining on the runway.
The collection ranges from skin-baring to cozy, featuring items like cardigans, blazers, and skirts both long and short. One common theme tying the looks together was the raffia detailing incorporated into some pieces, including extravagant hats and even a raffia bucket bag. Structured skirts, voluminous ruffles, and a few boxy silhouettes brought layers of texture to the runway.
Of course, this would not be a Jacquemus show without dainty detailing. Similar to the brand’s “Le Papier” collection, “Le Raphia” features an abundance of strappy detailing, bringing a layer of complexity to each outfit.
The Guest List
Jacquemus’ shows always attract a newsworthy audience, especially considering the designer’s close friendships with so many stars. “Le Raphia” was no different.
BLACKPINK’s Jennie Kim caused an uproar on social media with her appearance, wearing an all-white outfit complete with bows in her flawlessly styled hair. The look featured a strapless little white dress, a boxy jacket in matching color, and faux-fur mules. Keeping it coherent with the runway’s theme, Jennie accessorized with a raffia bag and accompanied her outfit with a natural beauty look that included white monochrome nails.
Sitting next to Jennie were Spanish actor Aròn Piper and British rapper Central Cee — who starred in the brand’s Winter 2022 “Neve World” campaign — giving an ode to dopamine dressing in bright orange and emerald green looks.
Francophone singers Angèle and Aya Nakamura, American rapper Amine, model Pamela Anderson, and reality television star Christine Quinn also attended the show. This guest list proved once again that Jacquemus has established an undeniable global presence.
Jacquemus is constantly evolving, growing its international influence and name in the luxury fashion world. From highly Instagrammable purses to sophisticated ready-to-wear, the label has yet to find a limit to its prowess.
