Kicking off this year’s award season, the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards reunites Hollywood’s elite to celebrate motion pictures and television achievements. The highly-anticipated event traditionally takes place at the iconic Beverly Hilton Hotel, where it has been celebrated since 1961.
Throughout its lengthy history, the Golden Globes red carpet has been the backdrop of remarkable style moments. With a star-studded lineup that includes the likes of Barbie star Margot Robbie, Dua Lipa and Elle Fanning, this year promises exceptional fashion.
See some of the top arrival and red-carpet moments from the 2024 Golden Globes below.
Quinta Brunson
Quinta Brunson, the multihyphenate behind the comedy series Abbott Elementary (2021), returned to the Golden Globes in a glimmering silver Balmain dress. The custom piece sparkled from its halter neckline to its hem, which hovered above a pair of Jimmy Choo heels. To balance her extravagant outfit, the actress opted for a sleek hairdo and light smokey eye makeup by Kasha Lassien.
Pom Klementieff
French actress Pom Klementieff, who starred in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 last year, put a sensual spin on the black-tie dress code tonight. Pom’s floor-length dress was constructed primarily out of sultry black mesh, with full sleeves that ended in white cuffs. A subtle black bow decorated the belt, separating the dress’ stark white segment from its flowing, high-slit skirt. The semi-transparent fabric showed glimpses of Pom’s thigh-high black stockings and point-toe heels.
Julia Garner
Dressed in a silver dress by Gucci, Ozark star Julia Garner made a case for metallics — one of the trends expected to take flight in 2024. Featuring a plunging square neckline, the gown also tapped into the textured fabric trend that took over the runways during the most recent Fashion Week circuit. To top off the maximalist piece, Julia opted for a minimalist take on accessories with a single gold bangle and a silver ring.
Dua Lipa
British singer Dua Lipa continued her streak of all-black looks with a Schiaparelli Couture gown. The star nodded at her Barbie character, Barbie Mermaid, with a mermaid-cut dress with gold hardware. Dua’s look also featured an archival Tiffany & Co. necklace from 1962, which perfectly paired with a statement ring and a red manicure.
Elle Fanning
Elle Fanning made her Golden Globes debut dressed in an archival gown by Balmain. The fitted strapless dress boasted a large appliqué that matched one of this year’s most popular trends: bows. To complement her dreamy, princess-like gown, Elle accessorized with Cartier jewelry pieces.
America Ferrera
Barbie actress America Ferrera proved metallics to be one of the hottest red carpet trends of 2024 in a sequined dress. The silver number was covered in pearl embellishments and featured elegant pearl straps. Keeping things classy, the star accessorized with a diamond jewelry set by Harry Winston.
Margot Robbie
Margot Robbie was everywhere in 2023, thanks to her iconic press run with Barbie. Last summer’s doll-inspired blockbuster brought new life to the color pink, bringing it to runways, red carpets, and everyday wear. At this year’s Golden Globes, Margot Robbie once again paid homage to Barbie in a show-stopping hot pink Armani gown inspired by the Superstar Barbie 1977 doll. Paired with a pink clutch and Margot’s signature Barbie-blonde hair, it was yet another perfectly executed rendition of Barbie’s best looks.
Michelle Yeoh
Certified style icon Michelle Yeoh put a minimalist spin on Hollywood glamour for her first award-ceremony appearance of 2024. The Malaysian star wore a red strapless dress with visible seams and paired it with pointed-toe metallic heels and a matching silver clutch. To complement her architectural gown, Yeoh’s dark hair was sculpted into subtle waves.
Jennifer Lopez
There’s not a time JLo doesn’t stun on the red carpet and her appearance at the Golden Globes was no different. The singer sported a body-hugging baby pink gown by Nicole + Felicia. The gown was an iteration of the brand’s FW24 bridal collection and featured a mermaid cut and cape with 3D floral details. Nodding at the metallics trend, JLo also carried a gold rose clutch and a set of pink-toned jewelry.
Charles Melton
Charles Melton wore a structured Giorgio Armani suit, complete with a dapper black bow tie, to the carpet tonight. Charles’ normally wavy hair was neatly slicked, and he accessorized with a subtle — but dazzling — earring. In a sweet gesture that made the internet swoon, the Korean-American actor brought his mom to the show with him. The actor also posed next to his May December co-star, Natalie Portman, who sported a bedazzled Dior gown.
Greta Lee
Past Lives actress Greta Lee made her Golden Globes appearance in a white satin gown fitted to a mermaid silhouette. The Loewe piece boasted an unconventional cape, secured halfway down its length and connected to the dress’ tail. Greta completed her look with statement earrings, minimalistic makeup, and an Old Hollywood-inspired wavy bob.
Issa Rae
Putting a bolder spin on the metallics trend, Issa Rae stepped out in a Pamela Rolland design. The orange sequined number featured embroidered patterns and was paired with a sleek hairdo. To further push for the metallics agenda, makeup artist Joanna Simkin created a subtle golden eyelid look with Charlotte Tilbury products.
Emma Stone
It’s 2024 but the naked-dress trend is still going strong. Nominated in the Actress in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture category, Poor Things star Emma Stone stunned in a Louis Vuitton sheer dress. The actress matched the plunging neckline piece with nude strappy sandals and a red manicure that contrasted with the pastel-colored details in the gown.
Steven Yeun
Beef star and Golden Globe winner, Steven Yeun, took the classy route for this award ceremony. Proving that a man can never go wrong following black-tie codes, the actor was dapper in a sleek black tuxedo and a classic white shirt. Yeun completed his red carpet fit with a silk bow tie and patent leather derbies — head-to-toe Dior, of course.
