Summer’s not over yet, and PLAVE are here to beat the heat with their recent digital single! Following their second EP Asterum: 134-1 in February, virtual K-pop boy group PLAVE came back with “Pump Up The Volume!” on August 20 — marking the group’s first release after six months. If you’re in the mood for a summer anthem for a sunny afternoon, “Pump Up The Volume!” is here to freshen up your day.

PLAVE Give PLLI Their Feelings

Reminiscent of Korean slice-of-life drama soundtracks, PLAVE make you feel like the main character in this new energetic K-rock track. “Pump Up The Volume!” effortlessly blends a retro-inspired melody with a lively rock band sound, creating a nostalgic and refreshing K-rock song. The track starts off with an introduction by GOT7’s Youngjae, a nod to the group’s regular appearance in Youngjae’s late-night radio show Close Friends and PLAVE’s late-night radio show PL-RADIO

Compared to their soft rock ballad song “The 6th Summer,” “Pump Up The Volume!” is fueled by a classic rock beat and PLAVE’s soulful vocal delivery, cementing the refreshing rock song as fitting for the highteen scene. Lyrics like “Of such many people, only you stand out to me  / Of such many people, only you are visible to me / I couldn’t say I love you, but now I say goodbye / I’ll give you my feelings this way” engage listeners in an innocent love confession between PLAVE and PLLI. As the riveting guitar shredding signals the song’s conclusion, PLAVE stack harmonized ad libs as they whisper their confession one last time.

The summer song not only encompasses the group’s witty writing but also PLAVE’s unique style. The track’s melody was originally improvised during a livestream where the PLAVE’s producer line (a.k.a. Yejun, Noah, and Eunho) spontaneously composed the song’s theme, lyrics, and arrangement. In addition to PLAVE’s skill in production, the song holds a special charm with its incorporated inside jokes, such as Yejun’s humorous rap making it into the song’s final cut.

The music video presents a cinematic story following PLAVE into a camping trip in the desert lands ASTERUM. From their comedic interactions to giving a riveting performance, viewers can watch as PLAVE communicate with PLLI on Terra (a.k.a Earth) via radio broadcast. Making a special feature at the end of the music video, celebrity Cha Eun Soo appeared on the television saying, ““I really like this song. May I sing along too?” as he dances along to PLAVE’s summer hit.

PLAVE’s Run Towards Success

The day after their single’s release, PLAVE officially scored the first No. 1 by a boy group in 2024 on Melon’s Top 100 at 12 AM KST. Six other PLAVE songs — “WAY 4 LUV,” “Our Movie,” “Watch Me Woo!,” “From,” “Virtual Idol,” and “The 6th Summer” — also hit the list within the same hour. As PLAVE continue to demonstrate their impact and successful rise in the music industry, the group is preparing to hold another fan concert, “Hello, Asterum! Encore,” on October 5–6 at Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul.
