As one of New York’s finest, Cleotrapa has seen a steady rise within the music industry amassing thousands of views across her music videos. Now she and Lay Bankz are here to serve up her latest single “Everybody Ate.” The song pulls inspiration from Beyonce’s “PURE/HONEY” and originally found its feet as a mashup on TikTok. Mixed by DJ Hunny Bee, “Everybody Ate” meshes Beyonce’s song with Cleotrapa’s famed saying “Come to find out.. Everybody Ate.” On October 11, she dropped the official song.
Turning Lemons Into Lemonade
It wasn’t long ago when the New York rapper dropped her six-part tell-all video series detailing the treatment she faced from rapper Ice Spice on the “Y2K” tour. Though many are finding Cleotrapa through TikTok, New Yorkers know her from the early days of Instagram, posting relatable meme content. The TikTok series amassed millions of views across TikTok as netizens, bloggers, and content creators all waited in anticipation for each new video. When mentioning being left out of food outings, she noted that “Nobody said anything about food still…. Come to find out, everybody ate… Steak, Mash, Cream Corn, Spinach.” The sound bite took TikTok by storm with over 6,500 creations, as fans and creators joined in to post comedic videos. With this soundbite, DJ Hunny Bee remixed the track furthering the song’s release with over 9,200 creations. From there, Cleotrapa met with the DJ to bring the track to life.
Come To Find Out… Everybody Ate
“Everybody Ate” is braggadocious, bombastic, and fierce in its delivery. Coming in at just a minute and fifty-two seconds, it leaves one wanting more. The beat kicks in with powerful percussion, bringing listeners to the ball. Its catchy hook sets the stage for vogue, making it a fitting record to stand alongside tracks like Kevin Aviance’s “Body.” The song enlists the help of rapper and singer Lay Bankz, who has seen her own success through tracks like her 2024 hit “Tell Ur Girlfriend.”
Ahead of the release, Cleotrapa hosted an intimate dinner to a select number of industry members and friends at Saint Resto Lounge in midtown. Notable musicians like Cash Cobain, DJ Class Act (who were also part of the “Y2K” tour), and Aliyah’s Interlude. The curated menu offered options like the “Not Even a Salad?” chicken caesar salad, “Vacuum Wings” chicken wings, and more. The dish names were cheeky references to her recent falling out with Ice Spice.
It’s Cleo Season
With consistent music drops, Cleopatra has been something of a hidden gem within the scene. 2024 has gifted us with tracks like “Von Dutch,” “Rockstar,” and “D.B.A.D.” Recently, she was brought out by the Bronx native rapper ScarLip, at her S.O.B’s show. With a strong and passionate fanbase by her side, it’s clear that there’s only way for Cleotrapa to go — and that’s up.
