The streets of New York were filled with celebration. Pride happy hours; FIFA World Cup matches; and the New York Knicks versus the San Antonio Spurs. But nothing hit quite like an intimate show with Guyanese American singer Danny Singh.ย On June 13th, EnVi was able to witness Danny Singh bring Punk&B to Brooklynโ€™s Babyโ€™s All Right

Just hours before the show, EnVi held a backstage portrait session with Singh, who was engaged in an energetic soundcheck with his band RUOK. Joined by family members Gabriel and Nathaniel Singh, they were lost in the music. Hair slicked neatly in spikes and cornrows with heavy cargo shorts and shades as his fit of choice, rockstar energy radiated from Danny Singh, who was all smiles.

Immediately charming, he worked his green room greeting friends, journalists, and team members who worked away at preparing jewel case CDs and merch for fans. Singh remained cool and collected, but it was clear that there was excitement in the air for his headline show. Witnessing the real time development of a star is an experience like no other.ย

Energy Levels

Fans buzzed with energy as they waited in the intimate halls of Babyโ€™s All Right. Welcoming some of New Yorkโ€™s greatest, it has become a fan-favorite venue for the music community. Fashionably dressed twenty-something year olds came in their finest.

Entering through the back of the room, Singh started the show with the fans. He parted the dense audience as he made his way to the stage and connected with fans at a human level along the way. Singhโ€™s aura made it so it was impossible to keep eyes off of him. Alluring, mysterious, yet devilishly charismatic, fans couldnโ€™t help but record the moment.

The engaged crowd came to match with enthusiastic cheers back to the singer. And it wouldnโ€™t be a New York evening without some mention of the New York Knicks as fans held up cardboard cutouts of point guard Jalen Brunson.

Standout Performances

OVERDUE: Red Lights consumed the venue as Singh hit the stage. โ€œOVERDUEโ€ is an immediate earworm with lyrics like โ€œI seen your call on my phone last night, but now it means nothing to me.โ€ Distorted production only elevated the tasteful use of autotune throughout the almost three-minute song. Tugging at his listenersโ€™ hearts, Singh puts his all on the stage gripping the mic with two hands.

WASSUP: Singh upped the ante in record speed with a familiar track. With a moment for its โ€œspiderpunkโ€ sonics, โ€œWASSUPโ€ could easily fit as a theme for Hobie Brown from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. โ€œWASSUPโ€ and its mix of screeching guitars with jersey club percussion put the independent talent on the radar. If you havenโ€™t experienced it live, this is one of those songs where the live performance truly elevates the music. Crushing drums filled the room as Singh screamed, โ€œWASSUP!โ€ He worked each side of the stage among strobe lights and fans screaming in unison with him.

CANDY: Coming off the highs of hard-hitting sonics, โ€œCANDYโ€ is a slick R&B track where Singh flexed his vocal capabilities. He made eye contact with each and every audience member, emoting passionately through the performance, after starting off the song with effortless vocal runs. The crowd later joined him in singing โ€œkissing and drinking been turning you wild.โ€ An auto tuned mic blended seamlessly with raw and relentless guitar riffs.

High Notes

Though all eyes were on Danny Singh (the frontman of RUOK), instrumentalist Ian Ackerman supported the band on stage with guitar prowess. This elevated the already immersive catalog of Singh and RUOK. As the band inched closer to the setโ€™s end, Ackerman was given the reins to let it rip with an epic guitar solo. It wouldnโ€™t quite be a proper rock show without at least one epic guitar solo, right?

For Fans Ofโ€ฆ.

Coloring outside the lines.

Danny Singh doesnโ€™t ask for permission to bend genres. He joins the next wave of artists who refuse to just be boxed in, like Teezo Touchdown, Paris Texas, and Zelooperz. As with any genre-bending Black artist looking to find their footing, it can be easy for their music to be labeled as โ€œurbanโ€ or โ€œhip-hopโ€ without any further exploration into the sounds being created. After all, Black people are responsible for the genres many have come to know today like country music and rock. With Singh, he brings a variety of sounds across hyper pop, rock, R&B, and pop to his music.

Verdict

Short and sweet โ€” but leaving audiences with the desire for more. In 2025, EnVi first witnessed Singhโ€™s performance capabilities at his โ€œToxicโ€ rave release party. With a half empty room, turntables, and close collaborators in attendance, he took over 100 Sutton. Even then, the emerging singer was able to make the intimate event feel like it was packed body to body. Although his previous entry โ€œTOXICโ€ followed the hyper pop wave of 2025, Singhโ€™s musical identity was evident through the angsty release. In 2026, Singh ditched the polish for gritty performances with a packed room at Baby’s All Right.

He has grown in both sound and visuals, a testament to his work as a true DIY independent artist. Itโ€™s not easy to find footing in a saturated industry that has become harder and harder to cut through. But for Singh, itโ€™s clear that he occupies a unique and necessary space with his โ€œPunk&Bโ€ sound.
