On July 9 Grammy-nominated boy group BTS released their second track “Permission To Dance,” from their latest CD single Butter. Written by Ed Sheeran, Johnny McDaid, Steve Mac, and Jenna Andrews, “Permission To Dance,” is an upbeat dance-pop track with a catchy melody. Days before the official announcement, the British singer, Ed Sheeran teased his participation within the track. This is the second collaboration between Sheeran and BTS after he co-wrote “Make It Right” for the group’s 2019 album Map Of The Soul Persona.
The music video which premiered on Youtube at 1 PM KST, delivers an energetic and charming performance as it follows the seven-member group as they dance inside and outside a locale. With lyrics such as “We don’t need to worry / ‘Cause when we fall we know how to land” and scenes of kids and couples following purple balloons with their masks on and later off, the song offers a sense of freedom as it shows a desired future, free from restrictions with the end of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
“Permission To Dance” reveals a cheerful choreography that includes a special moment of connection when the members use the international sign language of the words “joy,” “peaceful,” and “dance.”
A Sense of Hope in the Midst of it All.
Since their early days, BTS have been very vocal about spreading a positive message through their music. As member J-Hope told Rolling Stones back in May “We just wanted to make music and do performances that other people can resonate with and that can give people more strength.”
“Permission To Dance” embodies that as the song delivers positive energy and a sense of hope. According to a press release, the track is “dedicated to anyone who is feeling down or having a bad day” and provides comfort to whoever is facing hardships. Member Suga sings “Just keep the right vibe / ‘Cause there’s no looking back / There’s no one to prove.”

i love how bts make songs to the problems our society and this generation faces. it’s as if that their songs have the answers and solutions and it’s the most comforting thing. it can range from ‘paradise’ to ‘ptd’ to ‘baepsae’; they’re always making a statement.
