Hailing all the way from South Korea, the six-piece girl group EVERGLOW have cemented themselves as valuable players in K-pop’s fourth generation. Just this June, they released their single EP ZOMBIE (which came with three tracks), and on September 29, the band took to New York City’s Town Hall. Consisting of members Yiren, Mia, E:U, Aisha, Onda, and Sihyeon, their arrival to the States drew in a wealth of fans anxious to see the girl group. EVERGLOW have carved out a unique lane for themselves in K-pop, offering up expressive and bombastic music. Debuting in 2019, they have crafted an impressive catalog that weaves seamlessly between genres. It has been almost a year since they were in New York at Kings Theater, and with new music out, they were ready to slay.
Starting The Night Off With Bangers
It was just 7:22 p.m. when the last few rounds of fans packed the decadent Town Hall, filled with chatter. It wasn’t long until two interpreters announced that the show would begin in just five minutes. Fans erupted into passionate cheers. For this tour, Aisha was sitting out due to physical health concerns. Although her presence was certainly missed throughout the evening, EVERGLOW still carried the night with playful energy. “DUN DUN”— a quintessential girl crush song — was the first song of the night, bringing fans right into the action with its meticulous production and impressive vocal performances.
The evening was filled with the group’s most popular songs, making use of the already hyped-up crowd. Leaving fans with no time to catch their breaths, they went right into the next song, “LA DI DA,” From its release until now, “LA DI DA” cemented EVERGLOW’s spot as a girl group to watch. The ‘80s synth inspired track is anthemic with messages of self love littered through its three minute run time. It was impossible not to join the crowd, who screamed the lyrics “Got no time for haters / To all the bad guys and the players.” Going straight into “Pirate,” they set the tone of the night: Main character energy.
Getting Personal with EVERGLOW
The personal charms of each member shone bright as they took frequent pauses through the show to talk to fans. It was greatly appreciated. Behind EVERGLOWS’s fierce performances were bubbly and funny women, dedicated to giving their all to their fans. And though they needed no introductions, each member took turns speaking to the crowd. E:U got sentimental, saying, “I’m so glad I could finally be here today, we all really worked hard to create unforgettable memories for our Forevers.”
Onda, E:U, Sihyeon, Yiren, and Mia made sure that fans throughout the venue felt seen, constantly waving to fans in the upper balconies. The star of the night, however, was Sihyeon — EVERGLOW’s leader — who cracked jokes throughout the evening while encouraging her members. She also powered through past injuries. “I’m still young, forever young, so don’t worry. I’ll come back [to] our next tour in New York [in] perfect condition.”
It wasn’t long until the members picked the action back up. Mia was enthusiastic, reminding fans to “Make sure to scream a lot and sing along to our songs. We are in the second city of our tour: New York.” The next portion of their set brought performances of tracks like “ZOMBIE,” “Colourz,” and “Oh Ma Ma God.” And when they weren’t singing their own songs, they were offering up covers of the year’s hottest songs with some classics. Sihyeon spoke to the crowd once more. “So we took a lot of time carefully selecting the songs, but I think we selected the right ones.”
Bringing Fans Back To Debut Days
EVERGLOW brought the audience back to their debut days with the performance of their debut song “Bon Bon Chocolat.” From the first note of the song, fans erupted into shrill screams, singing every single word of the song. There was a certain charm in seeing a now cemented EVERGLOW perform this song to a crowd of fans in New York. It was clear that EVERGLOW was also having just as much fun. Throughout the song, they couldn’t help themselves from waving to fans and giving heart signs to the crowd.
The members got sentimental and reminisced on their time in the industry. After all, 2024 would mark the celebration of their fifth year since debut. The members asked the crowd, “If you had to pick the happiest moment from our time together what would it be?” Many in the crowd screamed “first win” and “first tour.” The members warmly spoke to fans, “The reason EVERGLOW shines so brightly is because of the support from our Forevers.” When asked if they went to the first tour, many fans within the crowd raised their hands enthusiastically, mentioning that “it was raining.” They delivered more covers with hits like (G)I-DLE’s “Klaxon” and aespa’s “Supernova.”
“SLAY” was the second to last song, and EVERGLOW certainly did come to slay. Throughout the entire performance, they kept the energy at 100. The joy in watching an EVERGLOW performance is seeing their absolutely energetic and fun choreography. All the girls shone bright as they reached the last chorus. MIA, in particular, ramped the energy up, making it impossible to take eyes off of her. After “SLAY” came “Adios,” the title track to their second EP HUSH. Though short, EVERGLOW’s concert was the place to be that night in New York City.
EVERGLOW continued their tour through the U.S., hitting states like Arizona and Texas, and are set to continue through Latin America. To keep up on all things EVERGLOW, follow them on Instagram, Spotify and YouTube.
