Fandom Love Letters, as the name suggests, is a series that allows fans from any fandom the opportunity to share their love and admiration for their idols through means of writing. We at EnVi are fans of various artists, so we understand how impactful idols can be in our lives. We also understand how important it is to have a safe space for ourselves and our writing, whether or not they’re personal pieces. Through this, we hope to foster a positive community for fans worldwide. For today’s feature, アリア shares a letter she wrote from the heart to JO1’s for their debut anniversary.
Dear JO1,
I want to start off by saying congratulations on your 2 year debut anniversary! They say time flies when you are having fun, and the seconds have soared for me. In the blink of an eye, all 11 of you have become such an important part of my life, and all I can say is “thank you.”
I stumbled upon JO1 in February of 2020, just before your debut. I was going to study abroad in Tokyo, and I wanted to find Japanese artists to listen to while I was abroad. I found you by chance, just from a simple Twitter search. Who would’ve thought that a single tweet would change my life in such a drastic way? After watching the 無限大 music video, I saw so much untapped potential, I knew instantly I would have to stick around. There was a hint of something in all of you, in your dancing and in your voices, and it pulled me in so quickly I barely had time to breathe. I had loved other groups before, but not like this. This was a whirlwind of emotions from the start, a tsunami of adoration, with each video I watched of you being a wave that pulled me further and further out to sea. I didn’t mind being stranded; you guys were my life jacket anyway.
Since then, my love for each of you has only grown. I have watched you since then grow into the group that you are now. For two years I have stood by and watched through every success, every failure, every good and bad time. Yet through it all, you have always been the same, sweet, passionate boys all chasing the same dream. Each of you is a shining star in your own right, and together you make up one of the most beautiful constellations. Fitting, considering the theme of your debut single was the birth of stars. I think it suits you well, because now, you are one of the universe’s most amazing creations. All of your hard work has paid off, and it’s been so rewarding to watch each of you learn and become stronger in so many different aspects. When I met each of you in KCON:TACT 2 in October 2020, I told you how proud I was of each of you, and it’s still true. I could not be more proud of the version of yourselves you are today. From singing, to dancing and everything in between, you all have put in so much hard work and effort to become the best versions for JAMs, when in reality, you have always been enough.
I would be so lost if it weren’t for your constant, comforting presence in my life. Because of you, I too strive to be the best version of myself. So this letter is a “thank you”. Thank you for helping me believe in myself. Thank you for chasing your dreams and inspiring me and others to do the same. Thank you for being a beacon of hope, a guiding star in the sky for so many. Thank you for all the work that you do to make us happy. Thank you for showing us every side of you, and for allowing us to love you wholly. Thank you for the laughs, and the cheers, and the smiles, and the feelings of warmth that will never fade. Thank you for getting me through some of the worst times, and for being the reason for some of the best times. Thank you for coming into my life and changing it for the better. And thank you for being JO1.
It’s been two years, and these two years have been some of the best in my life, thanks to each one of you. I can’t wait to spend more with you and to follow you to the top of the world.
