Johnny’s Communication Center (JCC), a vlog series created by NCT Johnny Suh to showcase his lifestyle, hobbies, promotions, and new discoveries, just turned five on November 21! To celebrate this milestone, dedicated fans — called “Johfam” — organized “Johfam Tries It,” a unique, cross-border event held simultaneously in Indonesia and the Philippines.
“Johfam Tries It” was an immersive experience created to bring fans closer to the activities featured on JCC. This event consisted of five workshops in five different cities, mirroring the multifaceted talents explored by Johnny and his guests over the years.
For the Philippines, “Johfam Tries It” was specifically organized by The Suh Project, enriching local celebrations and ensuring a memorable experience for fans in the country.
Leather Workshop in Manila
In the heart of Manila, Philippines, participants delved into the intricate artistry of leather crafting. The workshop, inspired by JCC Episode 8, replicated Johnny and Mark’s passport crafting experience with hopes of bonding the Johfam community.
Workshop participants articulated their connection to Johnny’s diverse interests, with one enthusiast explaining, “The leather craft idea actually came from JCC Episode 8 where he and Mark made leather passports for each other. We want to recreate that experience with our fellow Johfam and make it a bonding experience just like how Johnny and Mark did. It’s more than just the leather crafts but the experience in making it.”
Inspired by Johnny’s explorations on JCC, the choice of leather passport making as a workshop theme resonated deeply with the Johfam community. Participants shared how Johnny’s ventures into various activities sparked a sense of adventure in their own lives. One participant reflected, “Seeing him try new things is like a fresh new start, and that I can do it too if he can! It inspired me to try new things despite the challenges that I will encounter in the process.”
For Johfam, Johnny’s influence extends beyond hobbies. In times of adversity, they draw strength from his confident and brave persona, finding parallels between his resilience and the durable nature of leather. As one participant expressed, “He motivates me to be the best version of myself which I hope is something he can be proud of. Through the course of my journey as a Johfam, I have done a lot of things: be a small business owner, spearhead a global project, do concert fan support, and be a media writer. I don’t think I’ll ever experience these without being motivated by Johnny.”
In light of Johnny’s fashion choices, especially his penchant for leather outfits, participants shared their admiration,” Fashion-wise, I think leather fits him really well. I think he has worn a lot of leather outfits and he looks so cool! A durable fit for a strong guy! So cool!”
As the event celebrated the collaborative spirit among different Johnny fanbases, participants fondly recalled their favorite JCC episode, highlighting Episode 10 where Johnny revisited his hometown in Chicago. The emotional connection established during this episode resonated deeply within the Johfam community, one participant noted, “It made my heart melt and has always been a comforting episode for me.”
Anticipating Johnny’s future explorations, another participant expressed a collective desire in the fan base, “In the future, I’d like to see him do a pottery workshop. I think that will really suit him since he has a lot of strength, and wheel throwing in pottery requires a lot of that.”
