In just five years, BLACKPINK has become trailblazers in the K-pop scene, becoming international icons with their music and fashion conquests. With music recognition comes many global records, and BLACKPINK has many. That is why it is no surprise that when Lisa, BLACKPINK’s spunky rapper and dynamic dancer, debuted her first solo song, it made waves across the globe. Literally.
Lisa’s music video for her debut single “LALISA” broke the Guinness World Records for most YouTube views by a solo artist in 24 hours and most YouTube views by a K-pop artist. With over 73.6 million views, “LALISA” beat Taylor’s Swift’s “ME!,” which had 65.2 million views on YouTube in 24 hours.
As a part of BLACKPINK, Lisa was a record holder for the most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours, most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a K-pop group, and the most viewed music video in 24 hours. However, the titles have since transferred to another act. In June 2019, “How You Like That” garnered 86.3 million views in 24 hours. It now has over 980 million views.
What’s Her Name? “LALISA”
Lalisa Manobal, better known as her stage name “Lisa,” made her solo debut on September 10 with two songs: “LALISA” and “MONEY.” Both songs are a perfect representation of the BLACKPINK rapper, who is a proud Thai K-pop star. Lisa is nothing short of successful and is certainly on the road to becoming a household name.
The songs and music videos flaunt her heritage, along with her distinct rap style and powerful dance. If you didn’t already know who Lalisa was, then you’re sure to find out after her solo debut.
Lisa’s Next Conquest
The rising solo artist will have her next project soon. Lisa will be featured on DJ Snake’s upcoming single, “Sexy Girl,” alongside global superstars Ozuna and Megan Thee Stallion. The track comes out on October 22. Further details are yet to be revealed, but the hype is real. After all, DJ Snake is the creative behind the international hit, “Taki Taki.”
Since her solo debut, Lisa has also been in the spotlight. Thailand’s Tourism Minister invited her to perform at the New Year’s Eve show in Phuket. While no statement has been released regarding this stage, this shows that there are a plethora of opportunities awaiting the Thai superstar. Her global recognition has even been referred to as a potential “soft power” by Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
With one hit and another on the way, Lisa has a promising career as a solo artist. Fans and nonfans alike will be tuning in on the Thai pop princess’ future endeavors.
