Shaboozey Fuses Cowboy Couture and Dandy Style in Robert Wun at 2025 Met Gala

Country-rap sensation Shaboozey made his Met Gala debut on May 5, 2025, wearing a custom Robert Wun couture suit that instantly became a talking point on the red carpet. The tailored ensemble, rendered in lustrous black moiré fabric, was draped in nearly 3,100 turquoise beaded chains and 2,900 jet-black Swarovski crystals. Completing the look was a crisp shirt with a wide bow tie and a flat-brimmed black hat. The outfit nodded to this year’s Costume Institute Superfine: Tailoring Black Style theme inspired by Black dandyism by blending Shaboozey’s rural Western cowboy aesthetic with a polished, dandy-inspired silhouette.

A Masterclass in Craftmanship

The suit’s bespoke design included a cropped bolero jacket (ending at the ribs) and flared bell-bottom trousers. Each sleeve was attached with sixteen draped bead strands, creating swags of turquoise from shoulder to wrist. A matching turquoise bow tie tied at the throat added a classic touch to the modern cut. Shaboozey accessorized with striking turquoise jewelry, even matching the color of his custom grill and watch to the beadwork on his suit, showing off how the monochromatic turquoise accents popped against the black fabric.

Robert Wun’s studio highlighted the ensemble’s meticulous craftsmanship, in a press release the brand emphasized that this fully handcrafted couture look required intense labor. 

Indeed, every detail was bespoke: the moiré fabric (with subtle oily ripples), the hand-applied turquoise beads, and even the placement of the Swarovski crystals were crafted to fit Shaboozey’s frame perfectly. Shaboozey’s show-stopping Met Gala ensemble was styled by Anastasia Walker, the longtime stylist credited as his visual architect. Her decorated decade-long career has shaped her detail-obsessed approach and insistence on craftsmanship. The result was a modern take on haute Westernwear, blending rugged country motifs (like the bow tie and hat) with the opulence of Black dandyism.

DuAl Heritage at the Forefront

This design also deliberately reflected Shaboozey’s heritage. Born to Nigerian parents and raised in rural Virginia, Shaboozey credits the blend of cultures for his passion for country music. The Robert Wun outfit subtly honored both sides of his identity as the cowboy elements spoke to his American South upbringing, while the elaborate beadwork nodded to bead traditions in African fashion.

The brand specifically mentioned that the color and pattern choices were inspired by Shaboozey’s dual heritage, a creative backstory that is also visible in the visuals of the piece. In this way, the look became a personal tapestry of Nigerian heritage and Southern roots, aligned with the gala’s celebration of the Black diaspora’s sartorial legacy.
