Sophie Powers is Owning the Spotlight with “klepto”
Toronto-born and Los Angeles-based artistic wunderkind Sophie Powers is reinventing what it means to be a “pop star.” Since moving to Los Angeles at the age of sixteen, Sophie has been steadily paving her own path in the pop landscape with her rejection of conformity and limitless musicality.
With hits under her belt such as “Better On Mute” and “popoff,” viral moments like her Crash Adams freestyle TikTok soaring past 120 million views, and a magnetic presence that has captivated high-profile stages across the globe — Sophie Powers is ready to take this momentum and gear up for a major year ahead.
Sophie’s 2026 is off to a triumphant start with the addictive single, “klepto,” joined by Chinese pop sensation Lexie Liu. To hear more about this long-awaited collaboration and how she grew into the innovator she is today, EnVi connected with Sophie via Zoom.
Upon joining the meeting, Sophie was quick to exchange compliments before diving into the interview. Her down-to-earth demeanor and sincerity toward her artistry throughout the conversation proved that Sophie Powers is more than a musical artist — she is a full-fledged experience ready to challenge the status quo.
Art From The Start
Sophie has always been destined for the spotlight. Before becoming the pop star we know and adore, she started out with acting and musical theater at the age of eight. However, when she was fifteen, a fateful performance at summer camp would be the catalyst for her full-blown music career.
Sophie’s supportive friends urged her to continue performing and posting her singing online after watching her perform. This was the exact push Sophie needed after a rocky school year, and a push that would lead her to pursue entertainment full-time instead of returning to school. Though it was a major decision to make as a teenager, it would pay off big time as she now stands as a confident musician making global waves.
“If you like electronic, postmodern punk, new wave, or hyperpop music — the odds are you’ll like my music,” Sophie coolly assured when asked to describe her sound. “I write about everything that I talk about in therapy, or should be talking about in therapy.”

Music has been there for Sophie through every phase of her life, which is why songwriting is a therapeutic outlet for her. Sophie’s discography is a running diary of thoughts that she hopes listeners resonate with and find comfort in.
Sophie carries a deeply rooted affinity not just for music but for art across various disciplines. From poetry, public speaking, and photography to editing, color grading, and post-production in film, Sophie utilizes her innate talent for the arts in conceptualizing her music.
Inside the World of Sophie Powers

Creativity seems to be synonymous with Sophie Powers. She doesn’t just create her own music — she constructs an intentional and immersive world around it.
Sophie plays a role in creative direction, art direction, and styling for her artist branding. Though she admitted she is “very controlling” of her own art, she encourages collaboration rather than taking full executive control.
Sophie approaches collaborators with ideas and a very specific vision, presented as a moodboard or deck. From there, she listens to her collaborators’ responses and the decks they prepared themselves. The final product? A team effort that transforms Sophie’s already multidimensional music into a fully realized story.
“I love collaborating because others take my idea and they’ll add their own spin on it,” she enthusiastically shared.
Sophie is even more hands-on when it involves styling. She has always been passionate about fashion, revealing that she designed collections for other brands and designs many of her own outfits. Similarly to how she pitches in the creative department, she will specify pieces she wants to her stylists and let them incorporate her vision into the final look.
“klepto”
Sophie’s latest release epitomizes her creative genius — artistic, empowering, fashionable, and unapologetic. The single, “klepto,” is simultaneously nostalgic with luxurious lyricism, yet future-forward with an infectious digicore melody. “klepto” is a quintessential confidence booster and an ode to the great Year 2000 (Y2K) divas who shaped the paradigm of pop music today.
The moodboard for the track featured artists like Nelly Furtado, Peaches (whom Sophie previously opened for), Lady Gaga, and Britney Spears. It wasn’t just the music that inspired Sophie, but also these artists’ grit and charisma. Beyond “klepto’s” message of embracing desire, she also wanted to use the track to dismantle the “pick me” narrative.
“I wanted to reclaim narratives around women wanting attention — women are often shamed for wanting attention or labeled as a ‘pick me’” Sophie said. “The song is about taking your power back, owning confidence, and making that archetype something to reclaim.”

The song sets the tone from its introductory lines: “Got a habit, always acting up / They say I’m too dramatic / Push ‘em all aside and steal the spotlight / I’m a klepto.”
Though Sophie has lived many lives since the song’s first iteration back in 2023, she still resonates with the song’s ability to unlock one’s inner diva. “I personally have grown since writing this song in 2023, but there’s no shame in stealing the spotlight. While I’m no longer the envious, attention-seeking girl I was when I wrote this song, she’s still in me, and that’s okay,” she shared in a press release.
When asked why the song had been in the vault since 2023, Sophie felt that “klepto” needed a creative partner. The addition of genre-defying pop songstress Lexie Liu was the missing puzzle piece.
Partner In Crime

Lexie Liu is a pop visionary hailing from China, known for anthems like “X” and providing her voice for League of Legends champion Seraphine in K/DA’s “MORE.”
When Lexie visited Los Angeles back in 2025, Sophie played “klepto” for her, and it was love at first listen. Lexie wasted no time and hopped into the studio the very next day since she was set to fly back to China soon after. Lexie’s energy turned the track into what Sophie “knew it could be.”
Lexie commented in a press release about the collaboration: “‘klepto’ is about stepping into the spotlight unapologetically. Hopping on this one with Sophie felt electric. I’ve always loved her creative world, and on this track, our energies collided and reflected in the best way. There’s real power in telling a story where no one has to play small.”
With a similar musical ethos and both boasting “internet princess” status, it’s no surprise that the two were already friends prior to the collaboration. This existing synergy is evident sonically and visually as Sophie and Lexie work in tandem with their magnetic chemistry reading like an established pop duo. The accompanying music video depicts the two artists taking the song’s title literally, chasing the thrill of a heist and stealing in the spotlight.
“Lexie and I bonded over wanting that same unapologetic energy on a modern Y2K pop song,” Sophie added. “Overall, Lexie’s artistry is truly inspiring, and I couldn’t have picked a more perfect collaborator for this track.”
Collaboration and Inspiration
On the topic of collaborations, Sophie named Peaches, Ninajirachi, Frost Children, nate sib, Billie Eilish, and Shygirl as some artists she deeply admires and would love to have the opportunity to work with. This diverse list is emblematic of Sophie’s genre-defying musical catalogue, further expanded by her work with K-pop artists.
Consistently outspoken about her love of the genre and a collaborator with some of the hottest groups in the scene, like NMIXX (“Reality Hurts”), IVE (“GOTCHA (Baddest Eros)”), and ILLIT (“jellyous (Feat. Sophie Powers)”), Sophie is no stranger to K-pop. Some artists within that realm she hopes to collaborate with include Yves, CAMO, XG, and BIBI.
She added with a knowing smile that she has some “upcoming collaborations in Korea that may or may not be some of the names I just mentioned” — but couldn’t say quite yet!

Sophie took EnVi’s question about who empowers and influences her artistry to heart, earnestly sharing that she wrote her answer in advance to make sure she gave credit to where it was due. Two musicians on her radar are festival powerhouse horsegiirL for her “commitment to artistic identity” and euphoric pop duo MGNA Crrrta for their “candidness about taking what’s been done and doing it in a fresh way.” As a multidisciplinary artist, Sophie’s list of inspirations extended to actresses Winona Ryder and Rachel Sennott for their candidness.
Sophie’s expression was radiant with gratitude when EnVi reassured Sophie that she must also be a source of inspiration for many budding artists, just like the names she just listed. Known for her stone-cold expressions and deadpan delivery, like in her viral American Idol audition, Sophie’s warm reaction displayed an unexpected charm that gave yet another reason to fall for her.
Onto the Next Quest
Sophie is a self-proclaimed “sidequester,” always finding a new hobby or interest to explore in her free time outside of music. Her latest endeavor is online streaming, which she uses to connect with “Powerpuffs” — her dedicated fanbase. She streams on TikTok Live, Twitch, and Discord after “learning about the streaming world from friends who are streamers and content creators.”
For those in her Discord server, she hosts a weekly stream called “muddy Mondays,” inspired by her 2025 single “muddy.” She spends about an hour chatting with “Powerpuffs” all over the world, catching up and sharing her upcoming plans.
As for what else “Powerpuffs” can expect this year, Sophie shared, “I have over 70 demos and plan to release a lot of music from April to April.” She also hinted at her first album, a new EP, and touring plans including internationally.
Sophie closed out our fruitful conversation with a sincere message to her fans: “First of all, thank you for reading. I urge you all to express yourself to the fullest, whether creatively, emotionally, or physically. At the end of the day, you care so much more than anyone else about yourself. There is so much power in realizing that.”

Join the “Powerpuffs” and follow Sophie Powers on X, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube! “klepto” is now available to stream on music platforms.
