Netflix’s Tudum, named after the sound of the iconic Netflix introduction, is the site built for fans and fandoms in showcasing exclusive behind-the-scenes content. Tudum 2023: A Global Fan Event was Netflix’s fifth Tudum event that showcased the hottest Netflix news from June 16 to June 18 in São Paulo, Brazil. Merging an in-person convention with a virtual livestream, the three day event celebrated a massive gathering of both fans and stars.
The event highlighted exclusive merchandise, a food court, and even a gaming area for participants as Tudum successfully brought on a new wave of fun content. But the exclusive event didn’t stop at the immersive installations. From new releases to specially curated content, big reveals were made for popular upcoming films and shows. Hyping up the fan favorites of the global platform, Netflix teased viewers with sneak peeks and exclusive clips. To recap the three-day-long event, here are some key highlights of Tudum 2023.
Catch Up With Tudum
Having amassed the highest viewership in Tudum history, Tudum 2023 was filled with fan favorites. From Emily in Paris (2020) to Wednesday (2022), fans could explore the stunning reimagining of the series’ sets as if they were the characters themselves. With Netflix series enjoying immense popularity, Chase Stokes of Outer Banks (2020), Maitreyi Ramakrishnan of Never Have I Ever (2020), and Maisa Silva of Back to 15 (2022) took the helm of hosting the livestream as its emcees. As the emcee trio led Tudum’s star-studded guestlist, actors Jenna Ortega, Penn Badgley, Chris Hemsworth, Lily Collins, Henry Cavill, Sam Hargrave, Andre Lamoglia, Valentina Zenere, and Kevin Hart made special appearances as Netflix’s prominent figures. With over one hundred personalities featured throughout the event, Tudum boasted a diverse cast fit for any fan.

Heartstopper Season 2
Showcasing an exclusive sneak peek of the first episode of Season 2 of Heartstopper (2022), Netflix viewers were dropped into the familiar world of Charlie and Nick. Premiering on August 3, 2023, Heartstopper Season 2 opens up in a world of color and light-hearted music as Charlie walks into school with a smile on his face. With the title of all eight episodes dropped, the sweet relationship of the fan favorite duo may face some hardships with episode 4 titled “Challenge” and episode 7 titled “Sorry.”
The Monkey King
The Monkey King (2023) is an upcoming animated film that reimagines the classic Chinese legend of Sun Wukong—the Monkey King. Honed with battle expertise and paired with his magical fighting stick, the Monkey King sets off on a journey to take back what’s rightfully his. But as the old story goes, there’s no hero without his battles. Having to fight with mythical creatures and even himself, the Monkey King will encounter challenges that test his morals. Featuring an all Asian voice cast, The Monkey King features the voices of Stephanie Hsu and Jimmy O. Yang. Premiering on August 18, 2023, Netflix promises an action-packed, family-friendly film.
One Piece Live-Action Series
Based on the fan favorite manga-turned-anime of the same title, One Piece is getting its own live-action series. Premiering on August 31, 2023, One Piece takes viewers to a world of pirate-infested waters and the main protagonist Monkey D. Luffy. Clutching to his dream of becoming the Pirate King, Luffy is set out to find the ultimate pirate treasure of all time—the One Piece.
The Archies
The Archies is an Indian film adaptation of the American Archie comic books. Set in an Indian town named Riverdale, The Archies is a coming-of age musical film with a vintage twist. It’s 1964 and Archie and his crew are living out their teenage lives. Filled with love or the lack thereof, friendships and mishaps, and parties galore, The Archies promises musical numbers and scenes reminiscent of simpler times. The film is set to release later in the upcoming year.

The 3 Body Problem
The 3 Body Problem is a science fiction TV series about “Three Body,” a VR game that takes the characters to an alien world. Based on the novel The Three Body Problem by Chinese author and engineer Liu Cixin, the series takes the foreign concept of aliens and intertwines it into reality.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Live-Action
Perhaps one of the hottest Tudum 2023 topics, Avatar: The Last Airbender is getting its own live-action series in 2024. Reimagining a fan favorite animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender relives the story of a world filled with benders that can manipulate one of four elements—air, water, earth, or fire. Protagonist Aang is the Avatar, a singular unique bender that is able to wield all four elements. Prophesied to hold enough power to end the ongoing war, Aang has to master all four elements before it’s too late.

Sneak Peek of Upcoming Korean Content
Korean content in particular demonstrated their increasing demand with their ever growing list of shows such as Squid Game (2021), The Glory (2022), and Extraordinary Attorney Woo (2022). Squid Game Season 2
The game that had millions of viewers in 2021 glued to the screen is back again with a second installation. With Season 1 ending on the cliffhanger of main character Seong Gi-hun set on seeking vengeance from the twisted game, the tension will be present with his onscreen return.

Sweet Home Season 2
Based on the webtoon Sweet Home by author Carnby Kim, Sweet Home Season 1 dived into a world that housed a strange phenomenon—humans turning into monsters. The series specialized in apocalyptic horror as the civilians preyed on by strange monsters mutated into monsters themselves. Testing the morality of humanity as bizarre monsters preyed on fellow friends and neighbors, the graphic series gave a true test of survival.
With a highly anticipated second season, the series is likely to hold an equally thrilling narrative. Although there is no confirmed release date for Season 2 of Sweet Home, the series is set to release in late 2023.
D.P. Season 2
Based on the author Kim Bo-tong’s webtoon D.P: Dog Days, D.P Season 1 was a story of a military police duo that operated under the D.P unit, capturing any military deserters that have fled from their military duty.
Embodying the physically draining and mentally abusive challenges that soldiers experience in the Korean military, D.P Season 1 had set a high standard of story-telling. After two years of Season 1’s release, Season 2 is set to premiere on July 28, 2023 with the reappearance of the original cast.
Celebrity
Starring Park Gyu-young as protagonist Seo Ah-ri, Celebrity tackles the recent phenomenon of celebrity influencers. Fame meets fortune as Seo dives into influencer-infested circles and reaches to attain the easy, dream lifestyle. But the life of a social media star doesn’t stay virtual as the world beyond picturesque content crashes into gritty reality.
With likes worth money, Seo Ah-ri is thrown into a competition that fuses fashion, flare, and fabrications. Set to premiere on June 30, 2023, the series aims to expose the dark side of the internet in all of its glamorous glory.
Doona!
Based on author Min Song-ah’s webtoon Lee Doo-na!, Doona! takes on the familiar girl-next-door trope and turns it into the girl-downstairs. First year college student Lee Won-jun moves into an apartment near his university when he chances upon his unlikely neighbor—former K-pop idol Doona.
Suspicious of his ex-celebrity neighbor that smokes more than she sings, Won-jun steers clear of her sour behavior. But when living in such close proximity, their paths are bound to connect whether he wants to or not. Starring Bae Suzy as Doona, Doona! is set to release in late 2023 as it stirs up a story of an unusual college romance.
A Time Called You
Based on the Taiwanese drama Someday or One Day (2019), A Time Called You is an upcoming series that tells the tale of second chances. The year 2022 ruins Han Joon-hee’s concept of love as her boyfriend Gu Yeon-joon passes away. It’s been a year since his passing, but she’s still mourning as she desperately wants to see him again. But when she wakes up in 1998 in a new body, Han stumbles upon a boy that looks strikingly identical to Gu.
Elated at first but soon led to discover that the new boy isn’t her late lover, Han is now stuck in a different world that feels both familiar yet foreign to her own. Trapped in another identity and a different time, Han is faced with dilemmas that have her testing fate. While there is no official release date, the series is currently estimated to release in the third quarter of 2023.
Daily Dose of Sunshine
Based on the webtoon Morning Comes to Psychiatric Wards Too, Daily Dose of Sunshine follows the story of nurse Jeong Da-eun, who is transferred from the internal medicine department to neuropsychiatry. While juggling the change in environment, Nurse Jeong slowly starts connecting to the patients in the psychiatric ward.
Tackling the importance of mental health through the stories of her patients, Daily Dose of Sunshine centers on its healing genre. Starring Park Bo-young as Nurse Jeong, Daily Dose of Sunshine is set to release in late 2023.
Gyeongseong Creature
Starring Park Seo-joon, Han So-hee, and Wi Ha-joon, Gyeongseong Creature is a historical thriller series set in 1945. Gyeongseong, now known as Seoul, is under Japanese rule as civilians are vying for survival. When the main duo (portrayed by Park and Han) encounter a series of missing person cases, an underlying thread leads them to a creature that thrives in human greed. Set to release in late 2023, the series teases an action-filled narrative of an alliance between a wealthy man and a bounty hunter.
