Ryder Beer – “One That Got Away”

The end of a relationship comes with a whirlwind of complex emotions. New York native and emerging artist Ryder Beer encapsulates these feelings in his newest single, “One That Got Away.” Music has always been closely intertwined in Beer’s life and upbringing. Beer went from mastering the drums as a child to now defining his own path as a singer-songwriter and producer. He debuted in 2023 with the indie-pop single “Can’t Take It,” which cemented his sonic storytelling abilities. On Beer’s official website he shares, “I am committed to a more harmonious world.” His sophomore single, “One That Got Away,” proves this very commitment.

Atop a dance-pop beat are Beer’s pleas to “Don’t break my heart / Make me fall and then fall apart.” His earnest vocal delivery paired with electronic elements make for a multidimensional track. “One That Got Away” will have listeners simultaneously dancing along and reflecting the closure of a romantic chapter. MORGAN – “Wheel Up”

Just because summer’s over doesn’t mean the heat is gone! UK-based pop and R&B artist MORGAN’s latest single “Wheel Up” is exactly what you need. “Wheel Up” is a standout track that blends dancehall and R&B, paying homage to the singer’s Jamaican heritage. In a press release, MORGAN said she wrote the track in about two hours with Taneisha Jaxxon and producer duo Slim Typical. MORGAN starts the track off in patois, painting the vivid picture of a carefree night on a packed, buzzing dance floor. There’s an unspoken connection shared with her dance partner, where body language and rhythm do all the talking. Lines such as “We don’t even need no words to get to talking” and “Burning up, fire, a radiator” capture the heat and passion of the moment.

“‘Wheel Up’ is a tribute to Jamaican rave culture, which in my opinion is the best type of party,” MORGAN said in a press release. “There’s nothing better than being at a rave and the DJ ‘wheeling up’ and starting it again when the crowd is feeling them. I wanted to pay homage to Jamaica soundclash culture that has heavily influenced the UK music scene,” she added.

Jamaican dancehall artist Byron Messia hops on the track about halfway through, delivering a vibey verse and adding to the song’s irresistible energy. “I’m a huge fan of Byron Messia and couldn’t have had anyone else lay a verse on this – he brings energy and vibes when you’re around him,” MORGAN said via a press release. Messia’s provocative patois lyrics — about raving the night away and how his dance partner makes even Satan jealous — turn up the heat even more. The track’s paired with an equally hot music video, featuring MORGAN, Messia, and dancers sweating at a heat-soaked house party. The visual is like stepping into a sweltering summer day as MORGAN cools rubs an ice cube on her face while one party guest drinks milk straight from the bottle, letting it spill down her chin onto her neck. “Wheel Up,” and the accompanying music video, is the perfect song to bring back the summer energy we’re all missing.

elijah woods – “January Eyes”

Toronto-based artist and producer elijah woods is back with a banging EP, bringing the vibes of a 2000s teen coming-of-age movie. Thus far, elijah woods has amassed over one billion streams across his entire discography with multiple platinum and gold records. He had also sold out his first Canadian headline tour in 2023, and then successfully entered the international stage as the opening act for Niall Horan in Jakarta and performing at the Seoul Jazz Festival. This latest project includes six tracks of edgy indie-rock melodies, offering an intimate glimpse into pivotal experiences that have shaped who he is today. “It’s a blend of emotions tied to turning 30…Ultimately, this EP is my quest for maturity” said elijah woods on the EP.

Unlike the other more upbeat songs on the same EP, “January Eyes” is for the late-night lamenters whose hearts long for their summer sunshine. Starting with soft guitar strums, this track features a soft-techno echo and sorrowful melody that encapsulates the cold, empty feeling of a failed love. In the chorus, woods sings, “You felt like mid-July / To these January eyes,” clearly showing his regret and loneliness after a breakup. However, there’s nothing more that he could do other than sing out his feelings on this track. As the fifth track on the EP, “January Eyes” is a bittersweet goodbye and close to the summer.

PRETZELLE – “ซัดสักที (KNOCK OUT!)”

Tired of the melancholic tunes that often come with the topic of unreciprocated love? Thai girl-group trio PRETZELLE voice their frustrations in their new track, “KNOCK OUT!” Contrary to the positive vibe the new jack swing beat creates, the lyrics are straightforward and full of jealousy. PRETZELLE sing over the upbeat chorus, “Punch her straight in the eye if he dares to keep staring at you.” The track is full of other brutally honest lyrics like “I liked you first / I don’t know why you can’t see that / Maybe you need to change your glasses, girl.” There is no sugarcoating their feelings, and this sentiment is further expressed in their music video.

Members Aumaim, Grace, and Inc serve Y2K realness in the witty sitcom reminiscent music video. The three members try their hardest to appeal to their love interest, but they are no match for his partner. Frustrated, they don their boxing gloves and knock him out — reminding him of his loss. Between these thrilling scenes are their dance shots, with clever point choreography highlighting punching moves. “KNOCK OUT!” encapsulates a variety of emotions — nostalgia, revenge, confidence, and humor. Instead of wasting your tears and dwelling on your insecurities, PRETZELLE encourage you to voice your frustrations.
