Continuing to capture the ears of many with their unique music charm, WayV returned with a new multicolored collection of love in their fifth mini-album Give Me That on June 3. In their previous fourth mini album Phantom, WayV paid homage to The Phantom of the Opera as they adopted striking dark concepts in their refined musical discography. Similarly, second full-length album On My Youth portrays the narrative of facing lost youth. This time, the group focuses on love as they explore the ups and downs of romance through six refreshing songs. Give Me That also serves as WayV’s active confession of love as it delivers the group’s infectious energy through its personal presentation of diverse feelings. To celebrate the release, Team EnVi has created a walkthrough of the tracklist — from the dynamic title track to its animated B-side tracks.
WayV Ask For WayZenNi’s Love
WayV are no strangers to proclaiming their love and deep affection. In their Korean lead song “Give Me That,” WayV lets listeners feel their bright energy as they confess their love to the beat of the funky drums. The dance-pop song possesses an addictive melody and brass sound to the funky old school beat. Singing the honey-dripped lyrics, “You burst onto the scene a superstar / Staring slack-jawed cuz you’re like fireworks / That fierce walk of yours / Even those strange ideas, I like it / You got my heart, baby, trust me,” the song serves as an active confession of love to someone you fell in love with at first sight. The title track is available in both Korean and Chinese.
The entertaining music video tells a story of WayV participating in an audition, where each member shows off their speciality within a set time cleverly aligned with a timer that falls according to the actual song time. Members pick up different characters throughout the video with XIAOJUN posing as a lead singer of a band, KUN as a cowboy, TEN as a dancer, HENDERY as a rapper, and YANGYANG as a basketball player. In between the witty narrative, WayV perform a lively choreography to match the song’s exciting and groovy atmosphere. The dance number includes point moves that resemble shooting arrows of love to the chorus lyrics of “Gimme your love,” intensifying the song’s cheerful message and energy that’ll leave listeners moving along.
She A Wolf
Featuring theatrical sounds presented in previous tracks such as “Phantom” and “Moonlight,” hip-hop dance track “She A Wolf” embodies WayV’s signature vocal harmonies and upgraded soundscapes. The Korean song gives an immersive experience to listeners as WayV describe an irreversible attraction to a mysterious being that reflects the lonely atmosphere of a wolf. By combining hip-hop rhythm with a variety of sounds, “She A Wolf” creates a mystical atmosphere as if leading listeners into a dream. With the sounds echoes of howling wolves and dramatic vocal sections, the intro and outro composition enhance the immersion of the song with its explosive build-up.
We Might As Well
With an emotion as intense as love, WayV assert their longing for another in their rose-colored hip-hop dance song “Might As Well (预言).” The group expresses their sharp confidence in the future of a relationship playing out like a dream in lyrics such as, “Tell me how you love me / Tell me that it’s real / If we put in work / Then we can make it real / I don’t wanna waste no time, get it on.” The dynamic track adopts a Wild Wild West mood with an old school hip hop drum sound beside the hooking twang of the acoustic guitar. If you’re in search of the modern-pop cowboy jam, look no further as WayV have the perfect addictive groove for you.
Take a New Ride With WayV
Kick back and relax alongside WayV on a ride under the moonlight in their “New Ride (浪漫公路).” Specially designed for moonlit date nights, the R&B pop song boasts an upbeat yet mellow instrumentals that comprises soft percussion and prominent 808 bass and guitar riff. The exciting track mixes a mellow keyboard with synth sounds, resulting in a refreshing soundscape perfect for setting up the romantic mood. WayV showcase their breezy vocals alongside the seamless transition between the light singing choruses and bouncy rap verses. Singing “Riding in no man’s land / The engine whispers across the coast / Imma pick you up in my new ride and we ride / Baby giving me that new vibe and I like it,” WayV express their anticipation of a drive with a loved one under the moonlight.
Hey WayZenNi, Don’t Get Mad
Facing change in a delicate love, WayV appease a jealous lover in their emotional revelation in “Don’t Get Mad.” Finishing off the album with their softest track, the R&B song highlights WayV’s sultry vocals alongside the chill acoustics and nostalgic chimes. Reminiscent of 2000s R&B pop tracks, “Don’t Get Mad” exhibits chill prominent bass beats riding on top of the soft drum arrangement. Consisting of both English and Chinese lyrics, the group taps into their romantic side as they sing the tender lyrics, “Hey girl, don’t get mad, you can show up but you can’t react like that / I made a promise to you, shoulder to shoulder, just like the scene of yesterday.” WayV’s heartfelt message will have listeners’ hearts fluttering and singing along to its catchy chorus.
