Every music journey has that moment where dreams start to take shape, but for SWEET REVENGE a multiethnic Asian pop group with big aspirations, it’s been a six-year build-up fueled by passion and endless hours of training. Hailing from different corners of the globe — Agnes and Larissa from the Netherland, and Asami from Japan, — SWEET REVENGE began as hopefuls in the Global Vocal Battle Auditions. Together, they’ve poured years into their craft, signed to Japanese entertainment powerhouse LDH JAPAN, and now are finally sharing their sound with the world.

In an email interview, the girl group spoke to EnVi about their challenging journey, teamwork, and their debut single, “Might Just.”

Aiming High

The road to debut is rarely lined with glamor and for the members of Sweet Revenge it was a six-year grind marked by intense training across continents, evolving both as artists and as people. While they started their training in Holland and LA, the final two years in Japan became central to their growth. Days stretched long with back-to-back vocal and dance lessons that pushed them to their limits and, in turn, forged a deep bond among the trio. “Thinking back to who I was when I auditioned feels like a lifetime ago,” Agnes admitted, hinting at just how much they had each transformed. Asami reflected, “It was tough, but it helped us grow so much. Those challenges made our bond stronger and our performances better.” For Larissa, the journey reinforced that “to grow, you have to get uncomfortable and be consistent.”

With every rehearsal and setback, SWEET REVENGE became more than a group — they became a team. They didn’t just push each other to be better performers; they pushed each other to become more resilient, which is something they hope would resonate through their music.

The Duality of SWEET REVENGE

The name says it all. SWEET REVENGE is meant to reflect a balance of “sweet as sugar, fierce as fire,” a phrase Agnes used to describe their unique blend of warmth and intensity. Their mentors, legends HIRO and VERBAL, played a role in helping select the name from the members list of options. The name they landed on, according to the group, became more meaningful as they grew. For the members, this wasn’t just about image; the duality reminds each member to showcase her authentic self on stage. “It embodies both our sweet and savage sides,” Asami reflected.

Their name has also become a central part of their message, allowing them to connect with fans who see themselves in this balance of strength and kindness. Whether they’re sharing glimpses behind-the-scenes or delivering powerful performances, SWEET REVENGE embraces this dynamic fully, revealing different facets that resonate with their growing audience.

Mixing Cultures, Making Waves

For SWEET REVENGE, diversity is their superpower. Coming from different cultures, each member brought her unique influences into the group, shaping a sound and dynamic that couldn’t be pinned to one place. “We’re constantly learning from each other,” Agnes shared, emphasizing the openness that has become part of their process. They strive for harmony while letting each member’s personality shine through. Asami explained, “Our influences are global, but we’ve also been shaped deeply by Japanese music culture through our company LDH.” Together, they blended these elements into their content in a way that feels cohesive yet personal, allowing fans to see pieces of their individual backgrounds.

This cross-cultural blend is also what SWEET REVENGE hopes will make their music resonate across borders. They want their songs to feel familiar yet fresh, bringing together sounds that appeal to an international audience while keeping their roots at the core.

Might Just Let You Love Me

With their first single, “Might Just,” SWEET REVENGE took their years of training and poured it into a debut that was energetic, bold, and unapologetically fun. Produced by GRAMMY Award-winning production group The Stereotypes and 9AM, with lyrics written by Micah Powell and Kam Parker, the track was released on June 20, 2024. Its catchy hook and empowering lyrics quickly drew attention, giving fans a first look at the group’s playful yet assertive sound. “This song represented everything we’ve worked for,” Agnes shared with pride. For Larissa, the lyrics reflected their journey: “Might Just” was more than a debut single; it was a song that captured their excitement, struggles, and the joy they wanted to share. Asami explained, “It was so much more than just a song for us—it was the beginning of a journey.”

The lyrics, with lines like “I might just let you touch me, I might just let you love me,” held a playful yet empowering message that the group hoped would resonate with listeners. Sweet Revenge wanted fans to feel the same thrill and confidence they poured into the track—“Might Just” was their introduction, and they were excited to see how it would connect with audiences.

Although they are still rookies with only one track out, SWEET REVENGE has already marked a major milestone: “Might Just” was featured in the anime The Girl Downstairs. For the group, this opportunity fueled their drive to reach even further. “Hearing our song in an anime felt surreal,” Larissa recalled. This feature wasn’t just a big break; it was a testament to their hard work and a motivator to keep pushing forward. With dreams of collaborating with global artists and touring internationally, they were excited to see just how far they could go. “We dream of seeing our music reach places we’ve only imagined,” Agnes shared, her excitement evident.

Looking Forward

For SWEET REVENGE, the support from fans since their debut has been everything. “The love we’ve received has been incredible,” Agnes shared. Fans have embraced “Might Just” with enthusiasm, sharing messages of support and excitement for what’s next. Larissa described how each member eagerly read fan comments, saying, “We see everything on social media and always share their responses with each other.”
