Kanika Goyal Label, better known as KGL, made a stop stateside for New York Fashion Week. On September 10, the Delhi-based brand presented its Spring Summer 2024 Ready-to-Wear collection, Aether Leak. Mingling the familiar and the mystical, the runway introduced guests to Goyal’s vision, which is deeply rooted in quality craftsmanship and tailoring.
The Collection
Using a plethora of contrasting colors and textures, Aether Leak drew inspiration from the juxtaposition of opposites such as light and shadow, as well as the link between mortals and gods — as per show notes. Models walked the runway in an unconventional mix of neutral basics, silky abstract patterns, and bright neon statement pieces.
Airy taffeta, bonded knits, and lived-in denim mingled together while swooping arcs and structured geometric patterns created a common link throughout the collection. Outerwear inspired by the 1980s graced the runway via oversized blazers, windbreakers, and slouchy bomber jackets. Denim was also spotted across the catwalk through modern iterations of the Canadian tuxedo.
Then, iridescent gauzy materials and crisp black garments played with depth and light, as bright pinks and chartreuse added an essential pop of color. Etched with thin lines, dots, and stripes; peach, sky blue, and cocoa brown motifs topped off the collection, creating a vivid visual play.
