KAI – “Adult Swim”

Courtesy of SM Entertainment

EXO’s KAI is back and making a splash with his dreamy new single, “Adult Swim.” The track feels like that first dip into a cool pool on a warm spring day. It’s equal parts thrilling, refreshing, and a little bit daring. “Adult Swim” uses dreamy ocean imagery to set the scene for a cheeky, sensual love story. With lyrics like “From now on, it’s a little dangerous” and “Sway / It’s okay even if the waves shake you,” KAI is turning up the flirt factor and beckoning us to dive deeper into desire. It’s clear KAI’s ready to dive headfirst and swim into this next chapter, and he’s taking all of us with him.

“Adult Swim” is just the beginning of an exciting new era for KAI. His upcoming mini album, Wait On Me, is set to be released on April 21. Then this May, he will be taking his artistry to the stage with a 10-city solo tour, “KAION,” which will kick off in Seoul. But that’s not all, folks! KAI will return to the UK for the first time in five years to perform at “SMTOWN LIVE” in London alongside his fellow EXO members SUHO and CHANYEOL

Laufey – “Silver Lining”

It’s spring. It’s rainy. It’s the perfect time for jazz. Which means Laufey is here to soothe any hankering for just that. While anticipation for her third album lingers in the air, “Silver Lining” is the first single to come before its drop. Giving into a sinful love, Laufey’s single delves into a life of purity being thrown to the wind for something much more devious. Though the song may sound sweet, it’s anything but.

On the search for romance, Laufey leans into the absurd and ends up loving it. After forming a mischievous relationship filled with dirty jokes, red wine, and playground kisses, she is ready for commitment. During the chorus, she eloquently sings, “So I propose / It’s long overdue / When you go to hell, I’ll go there with you too.” No matter whether it is heaven or hell, she doesn’t care as long as she’s with her love.

The creative director for her music video, Junia Lin, was intrigued by the Chelsea Arts Club’s masquerade balls. In the video, Laufey can be seen dancing whimsically while others are covered by paper-mache masks. They float around her with movements inspired by the ballet The Rite of Spring until she joins in the dance midway through. If “Silver Lining” is anything like the rest of Laufey’s upcoming third album, it’s sure to be everything the 2025 jazz-pop scene needs.

JASP.ER – “ถอด Take It Off”

Courtesy of RISER Music

Thai boyband JASP.ER — comprised of members Joong Archen, Aou Thanaboom, Santa Pongsapak, and Pond Naravit  — have returned with their latest single, “ถอด (TAKE IT OFF),” on April 4. The quartet recently went from being a temporary project group to a permanent boyband much to the elation of the members and their fans. “ถอด (TAKE IT OFF)” is set to sleek R&B production by KANGSOMKS. Less about seduction and more about vulnerability, they urge their partner to drop their emotional guard and let love in through the track.

Each member takes on a verse, singing heartfelt lines like, เปิดออกมาให้ฉันได้เห็นแผลใจ which translates to: “Open up and let me see the wounds in your heart.” They also showcase smooth harmonies over the pulsing instrumental, but it’s the catchy repetition of “Take it off, take it off / no need to hide, no need to hide” in the chorus that really brings the song together. The result is a track that feels light on the surface but is laced with sincerity and flirtation, making it easy to dance to but even easier to fall for.

Rangga Jones – “Move On”

Lover boy Rangga Jones has switched the tone with his new release “Move On,” a catchy breakup song that makes being single sound a little too good. After teasing the song on his social media, he’s dropped the song in time for listening during April showers and contemplating every situationship ever. While “Move On” is the artist’s first breakup song, he’s already established his music this year with two other singles, “By My Side” and “I Like It (feat. nomoe).”

Along with the release of the song came a lyric video where Jones is seen alone in a parking lot, evidently in his feels, and singing along to the emotional tune. After stating he is set on moving on during the chorus, Jones sings, “Late nights just staring up at my ceiling / For no reason / When, you’re probably out with friends having drinks and / Having fun.” Though the lyrics may be introspective, it’s hard to slip into the sadness with Jones’s soothing voice in front of the juxtaposing instruments. Rather than a slower tempo and dry beat, the backtrack is surprisingly upbeat and hopeful.

With his last album having been released in 2023 and many single releases scattered throughout 2024 and this year so far, Rangga Jones fans can only hope for a larger release soon.

Alisa Xayalith – “Alone With You”

Laotian singer-songwriter Alisa Xayalith has rocked the indie-electronic world with her debut album Slow Crush, and her intro song, “Alone With You,” will be on playlists for ages to come. Starting slowly, Xayalith presents her voice raw and honest as the words “With you, with you, with you, with you…” echo for the first few seconds. Though many songs on her album are faster in tempo, “Alone With You” is slower and reflects the artist’s true feelings while in a state of infatuation.

Stuck in a state of want, Xayalith yearns for more in love, from wanting her haunting lover to reach out for her to wearing their clothes to be closer to them. Wishing they would want her as much as she wants them, she sings, “Wish you could stay / When I feel you leave for other parties / Time slips away and pieces of me / Hopelessly lonely.” Though Slow Crush is an album encompassing every phase of love, “Alone With You” is somber, melancholy, and painfully beautiful. If the flowers are blooming but your love life isn’t, this single is a must-add to your playlist. We feel you.

SAILORR – “Down Bad”

If you can’t give SAILORR something that can last, don’t give her anything at all. In her newest single, “Down Bad,” and the paired music video, she gets into the details of what she wants in a relationship. Though the song is complimented by her signature sensual tone, the tempo has a slow sweetness to it, standing out amongst her past singles. SAILORR starts the song with nonchalance, singing, “You ain’t even gotta impress me / If the main goal is to undress me.”

Recounting how her lover only calls her when they’re alone and on their own time, she realizes she wants more. SAILORR can be seen dancing through the desert in the music video, dressed in a more delicate version of her typical style. While wearing a ballet-inspired outfit, she dances to choreography from Beaulexx and Rayne Nichole. Not losing who she is, though, she’s also adorned in a massive fur jacket and riding an ATV. Known for her anti-relationship stance, she starts the chorus by singing, “I’m down bad / Ain’t it sad,” marking new character development for the artist. Though she may not keep her lover girl status for long, this is a side to SAILORR that is sure to stand out on this week’s roundup.

Chung Ha & Etham – “Find Love”

Chung Ha and Etham have teamed up to give us the spring collab single “Find Love.” Contrary to the song’s title, this track is anything but a love song. It’s the confetti-strewn aftermath of a heartbreak party. This tender ballad captures the ache of meeting the right person at the wrong time. With gentle, stripped-down acoustics, Chung Ha’s honey-like voice meets Etham’s raw emotive voice in perfect harmony, creating a sound that’s as fragile as the relationship they’re mourning. Despite the breakup looming over the lyrics, there’s no hard feelings towards each other, just regret. In a moment of bittersweet acceptance, they sing, “I hope you go find a love / And you’re better off without me by your side.” If you’re looking for a soft spring ballad filled with nostalgia and “what could have beens,” “Find Love” is the perfect track for you!

keris – “melatonin”

Ever have those restless nights when you can’t seem to shut your eyes no matter how hard you try? Well, keris’s new release, “melatonin,” is the lullaby you need. The track gently wraps you in a comforting embrace like a musical dose of melatonin that eases you into a peaceful state of mind with dreamy, lo-fi rock beats. With lyrics in English and Korean, “melatonin” is about the longing for a friend or maybe even a lover you’ve been apart from, a home that you can no longer return to. But deep within the soft melodies is the solace that even if you’re far apart, you can always reunite in dreams. It’s a reminder that after all the hard work and relentless hustle, you deserve a moment to rest, recharge, and simply let go. Joveth – “Lonely Boy”

Daring to be independent and face his past, Joveth is here with his debut EP, Lonely Boy, and his single of the same name. After sprinkling the other five tracks on the EP throughout 2024 and the first months of this year, his complete masterpiece is finally out. “Lonely Boy” is a genre-bending track focused on a time in Joveth’s life when he was told by a partner that without them, he would always be lonely. Reflecting on that moment, he took to the studio and turned his pain into art. Joveth starts the song with what his past partner said to him, singing, “I’m a lonely boy / Like you said I was.”

“This whole EP is a mix of the things I’ve gone through in the past four years,” Joveth revealed in a press release. “My songs are my form of diary and self-help guidance.” “Lonely Boy” starts the EP slowly before it leans into a bit of EDM nearing the end of the song. While many of the artist’s tracks are used as dance beats and inspirational tunes, “Lonely Boy” instead is for those who are ready to claim their independence and step into the next chapter of their lives alone. For those looking to follow Joveth’s journey as an up-and-coming artist, be sure to keep an eye out for his live festival performances and movement around Santa Barbara.
