Every year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York becomes the backdrop of fantastic style moments courtesy of the fashion, culture and entertainment elite attending the Met Gala. Otherwise known as the Costume Institute Benefit, the event is not just a fundraiser, it’s arguably one of fashion’s greatest nights. Accordingly, the Met Gala attracts its fair share of fanfare and anticipation.
As anyone would expect, this year’s dress code, “The Garden of Time”, prompted a slew of interpretations, from the most literal to the most intricate. While some went all out and others opted for subtle takes, there is no denying men left a lasting impression last night.
Below, EnVi rounds up some of the most stylish gentlemen at the 2024 Met Gala red carpet.
Bad Bunny
We’re starting our list with “El Conejo Malo” — the 2024 Met Gala co-chair himself, Bad Bunny. As a seasoned Met Gala attendant, Bad Bunny is one of the most awaited appearances of the night. This year, the Puerto Rican musician wore a custom Maison Margiela look by John Galliano. The outfit consisted of a high-collar smoking jacket, which faded into a black satin corset and matched a bulbous headpiece. La pièce de resistance, however, was a pair of Tabi shoes with a faded leather look and a glossy finish. Entering the carpet with a bouquet of black flowers in hand, the rapper looked ready to sweep anyone off their feet.
Usher
Another star opting for monochrome looks was R&B legend Usher. The star attended the fundraising event in head-to-toe Alexander McQueen. The outfit — inspired by creative director Sean McGuire’s debut Fall Winter 2024 show — consisted of a custom-made cape with black dipped rose details. Underneath, the “OMG” singer sported a black wool barathea tuxedo jacket and trousers embroidered with jet stone and rose appliqués. Black leather boots, a black leather fedora hat and a slew of statement rings took Usher’s Met Gala fit to the next level.
Wisdom Kaye
Amongst the internet stars who walk down the Met Gala entrance, Wisdom Kaye is one of the names people have been waiting for the longest. The model and content creator donned a burning bright red outfit featuring a floor-length jacket. The ensemble was paired with a singed hat adorned with burn holes that symbolized the decay of a rose over time. The deterioration at his coat’s hem added a dash of haunting beauty, complemented by the swallowtail collars. The look echoed the inspiration of Wun’s “The Scorched Bride” collection showcased at Paris Fashion Week in 2023.
Alton Mason
One attendee who has consistently turned heads with his annual appearances at the Gala is American model Alton Mason. This year, he donned head-to-toe Thom Browne. The model sported a full tweed ensemble consisting of a blazer, high-waisted pants and a puffer coat. Underneath, he wore an unbuttoned white shirt with an untied tie to add a sultry feel to the look. Topping it all off, he completed the outfit with a pair of white platform boots adorned with the signature Thom Browne stripes.
Barry Keoghan
When we thought we’d had enough of seeing men in tuxes at the Met Gala, Barry Keoghan proved that you can still spice up a good old suit and be on theme. Featuring an olive velvet tailored jacket, waistcoat and trousers, Barry’s look was an ode to classic menswear attire from the past. He masterfully accessorized with a top hat and elevated a ruffled silk shirt with a bow necktie. Adding some blink to the look and channeling Mad Hatter vibes, the actor rounded off his get-up with three Omega timepieces, including a pocket watch.
Omar Apollo
As one of Loewe’s most prominent ambassadors, Omar Apollo turned up to the red carpet in a suit inspired by Look 18 of the Spanish brand’s Fall Winter 2024 Ready-to-Wear collection. Chunky rectangular beading was stitched on the jacket’s lapels, along with a few floral embellishments as a nod to the theme. Omar’s look proved that the right amount of accents can elevate a classic black suit into an eye-catching ensemble.
Lewis Hamilton
Making a case for total looks, F1 driver Lewis Hamilton wore a black wool coat with floral embroidery. The piece featured a quote from Alex Wharton’s poem The Gardener embroidered on the lining to channel the night’s dress code. A silk double-breasted suit and black leather saddle boots completed the look, offering a modern but sophisticated take on tailored menswear.
Lil Nas X
American singer Lil Nas X is no stranger to out-of-the-box fashion moments. Last night, he was dripping in ice, dressed in a look that featured 50,000 Swarovski crystals and 2,000 buttons. The rapper wore a floor-length coat layered over a bedazzling tank top and matching pants underneath. The look, designed by Luar’s Raul Lopez, was inspired by the sensorial phenomena visitors will experience at the Costume Institute exhibition and paid tribute to the art of self-evolution through the layers of clothing.
Bright Vachirawit
Making history as the first Thai celebrity to attend the Met Gala, Bright Vachirawit was the talk of the town last night. Dressed by Burberry, he donned a black plated georgette jacket above a golden mesh tank and black silk wool trousers. As per the British brand, the design honored the evolution of fashion over time by drawing inspiration from traditional nobility fashion, which could perhaps explain the regal feel radiating off his look. Prince Charming who?
Felix
K-pop icon and rising Fashion Power Player, Felix Lee had fans losing their breath with his Met debut. Paired with his ethereal beauty look, Felix’s custom Tommy Hilfiger fit warranted a double take. What could easily pass as a simple white suit was, upon further inspection, littered with Easter eggs referencing J. G. Ballard’s The Garden of Time. As per Tommy Hilfiger, Felix’s look featured a white structured tuxedo jacket with silk satin lapels embroidered with the TH monogram and gold floral details. The pleated pants also featured silk satin tuxedo details. Meanwhile, the white button-down shirt was a reinterpretation of Tommy Hilfiger’s classic Ithaca stripe, with sheer fabric and floral motifs representing the famous Time Flower from The Garden of Time.
As one of Louis Vuitton’s it boys, Felix couldn’t miss out on the chance to take the French brand to the red carpet. Elevating his monochrome get-up, the rapper accessorized with a slew of gold and silver accessories including the LV Mosaic rings and a Nanogram cuff. In our editor’s words, “a winning look through and through!”
