The Style Roundup: Jisoo, Wang Yibo and Hyunjin’s New Campaigns and Ambassadorships
Fashion Month is in full force! Between the fashion hustle, the busy calendar unfolding in the major fashion capitals and international events such as the Toronto Film Festival and the MTV VMAs, there has been no shortage of fashion news.
From brand new campaigns and ambassador announcements to creative director appointments and upcoming product launches, EnVi rounds up the most relevant stories making headlines in the second week of September.
LVMH Announced the Winners of the 2024 LVMH Prize
On September 10, fashion conglomerate LVMH announced the winners of the 11th LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers. The jury, consisting of eight artistic directors from LVMH houses (Jonathan Anderson, Maria Grazia Chiuri, Nicolas Ghesquière, Marc Jacobs, Nigo, Phoebe Philo, Silvia Venturini Fendi and Pharrell Williams), as well as Delphine Arnault, Jean-Paul Claverie, Sidney Toledano and Natalie Portman, selected Ellen Hodakova as the main winner.
The designer, founder of the eponymous Hodakova, is known for championing fully sustainable fashion and working with discarded material to create her designs. Hodakova was joined by Dutch designer Duran Lantink and Irish designer Michael Stewart, who took the Karl Lagerfeld Prize and the Savoir-Faire Prize, respectively.
Boucheron Opened its First New York Boutique
Luxury jewelry brand Boucheron inaugurated its first boutique in New York on September 10. The brand celebrated the opening with an exhibition titled “From Paris to New York: A Cutting-Edge Journey Since 1858.” The exhibition featured some of Boucheron’s most outstanding pieces, including the new high jewelry collection.
The event, held at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in New York, was attended by friends and ambassadors of the Maison, including Mina (member of TWICE), Colman Domingo, Alexa Chung and Grammy Award-winning artist Leon Bridge, who performed for the stylish audience.
Sarah Burton Announced as Givenchy’s Creative Director
Fashion designer Sarah Burton was appointed as Givenchy’s new creative director. The LVMH-owned French Maison announced the news on September 9, stating, “[Sarah Burton’s] unique vision and approach to fashion will be invaluable to this iconic Maison, known for its audacity and haute couture.” Sidney Toledano, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Givenchy added, “I am convinced that her creative leadership will contribute to the future success and international standing of the Maison.”
The designer, who previously led Alexander McQueen’s creative direction, also shared her expectations as she takes the helm of the storied French house. “It is a great honour to be joining the beautiful house of Givenchy, it is a jewel. I am so excited to be able to write the next chapter in the story of this iconic house and to bring to Givenchy my own vision, sensibility and beliefs,” Burton said.
YSL Beauty Announces New Product With Danielle
YSL Beauty announced the launch of the YSL The Inks Vinyl Cream with a promotional video. Shot by photographer and director Jdz Chung, the video features Danielle of NewJeans. The South Korean singer is styled in a black ensemble against a classic YSL Beauty set.
Danielle has worked with YSL Beauty regularly since her 2022 debut as a member of NewJeans. In their most recent collaboration, Danielle and YSL Beauty join forces to showcase the new The Inks Vinyl Cream lip product. From the video, it appears that The Inks Vinyl Cream is a satin-finish liquid lipstick that leaves a smooth, hydrated finish. As a bonus, the product features with an endearing heart detailing.
Louis Vuitton Launches New Campaign
French fashion house Louis Vuitton released a campaign for the brand’s newest men’s collection. Titled “LV FALL,” the collection includes pieces featuring the work of late Korean artist Park Seo-bo — a painter recognized for a style of monochromatic painting known as dansaekhwa.
The campaign was shot by Brett Lloyd and centers around color and texture play. “The dandy charm that Pharrell Williams values in menswear is expressed in balanced graphics and subtle accents,” shared the Maison.
Hyunjin Becomes Cartier’s Newest Ambassador
On September 12, Hyunjin joined the Cartier family as the Maison’s newest ambassador. Since its 2018 debut, the South Korean boy group Stray Kids has nurtured an ever-growing global presence. Beyond performing on stages around the world, the octet has demonstrated its influence beyond K-pop. The group attended the 2024 Met Gala, headlined Lollapalooza in Chicago and has contributed to multiple soundtracks.
Now, Hyunjin becomes the latest member of Stray Kids to undertake individual endeavors in the fashion industry. The dance prodigy joins the ranks of Jisoo, Jackson Wang, Deepika Padukone and Jeff Satur as the brand’s newest ambassador. “I am incredibly proud to be part of the Cartier family as an ambassador. It is a privilege to work alongside them to inspire others and push the boundaries of beauty and creativity,” Hyunjin shared in a press statement.
Wang Yibo Appointed Jimmy Choo Ambassador
Chinese actor, singer and motorcycle racer Wang Yibo became Jimmy Choo’s newest global brand ambassador. The fashion brand announced the appointment on September 10 with a selection of visuals featuring the Fall 2024 collection. The campaign was lensed by fashion photographer Hekaituoyi in Shanghai and highlights Wang Yibo sporting iconic Jimmy Choo items.
Regarding the news, Creative Director Sandra Choi stated, “With his confident, bold style and multifaceted talent in many fields, Wang Yibo embodies what the Jimmy Choo Man is all about. We are thrilled to have him as our global brand ambassador.” Meanwhile, the Chinese star shared, “The craftsmanship and creativity of the Autumn 2024 collection is the perfect way to express my personality and style.”
Jisoo Stars in New Lady Dior Campaign
South Korean idol Jisoo reprised her long-standing role as Dior ambassador in the newest Lady Dior campaign. Shot by Bibi Borthwick, the minimalist campaign celebrates the heritage of the Lady Dior bag. Each season, Dior’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri revisits the label’s representative silhouette, expanding its legacy indefinitely.
Chiuri continually examines the traits that define modern femininity through her creative direction. In the newest collaboration, Jisoo demonstrates the juxtaposition of delicacy and power embodied in the Lady Dior line. The singer wears a range of outfits that complement the various versions of the iconic bag with Jisoo’s monochromatic black styling creating stark contrast against the plain white background.
Update: On September 16, data company Launchmetrics shared that Jisoo’s Lady Dior campaign generated $3.2 million in Media Impact Value™ (MIV®) in just 48 hours. Out of this overall figure, Jisoo was responsible for $1.2 million in MIV®, via a placement on social media.
Jimmy Choo Announces New Sailor Moon Collaboration
Jimmy Choo announced its second collaboration with Japanese manga Sailor Moon on September 13. In February 2023, the brand celebrated Sailor Moon’s 30th anniversary with a colorful range of footwear and handbags. The release was accompanied by a series of international pop-ups and promoted by East Asian icons including Shuhua of (G)I-dle and WinWin of WayV. Unsurprisingly, the coveted collaboration sold out almost immediately.
On October 9, Jimmy Choo will launch the newest collaboration collection worldwide and online. As per a press statement, the new installment delves deeper into the Sailor Moon universe. Specifically, it draws inspiration from the five new Sailor Moon characters across shoes, bags and accessories. One of the most prominent themes from the series to be reflected in the collection is unity among the Sailor Soldiers.
