Recently, Wolftyla took the time to chat with EnVi via email about new EP STARPOP, her creative process, and the personal growth behind her latest project.
NEW ERA LOADING…
Released on July 19, STARPOP marks a significant point in Wolftyla’s artistic journey. The five-song EP captures the sense of freedom and love she feels as a human being, reflecting her growth and self-understanding over the years. “With STARPOP, I wanted to break free from any constraints I’ve ever had and make music purely for the joy of it,” she explained.
“Wish,” the opening track on STARPOP, is a testament to Wolftyla’s evolution as an artist and sets the tone for her new era. The song’s inspiration is deeply personal, reflecting her experiences and the inevitable ups and downs of life. “I wanted to create a song that could capture this essence but also remind everyone, myself included, that things will be okay again,” she shared.
As an independent artist, Wolftyla faces unique challenges but also enjoys significant rewards. The responsibility of wearing many hats gets overwhelming for her at times, but the creative freedom and personal connection with fans make it worthwhile.
Being able to stay true to her vision and produce work that genuinely reflects who she is amidst changes was incredibly fulfilling for her. “It’s really special releasing a record and seeing the music resonate with someone,” she said.
RECIPES FOR STAR POP
Wolftyla’s love for R&B and Pop music is rooted in the artists she admired growing up. Influences such as Whitney Houston, Madonna, Britney Spears, and Lady Gaga have shaped her soundscapes and inspired her approach to music. These icons have influenced her desire to create timeless music that resonates deeply with listeners—a mindset she took with her going into STARPOP.
When it comes to writing and producing songs, Wolftyla’s creative process is dynamic and adaptable. For STARPOP, she allowed inspiration to come naturally rather than forcing it. “Sometimes, I might be inspired by a melody that pops into my head or a phrase that resonated with me,” she explained. This approach involves capturing ideas quickly, building melodies and chords, and then refining the arrangement to match her emotions. The process of turning feelings into lyrics is where she finds the most joy, making each song a rewarding creation.
Wolftyla’s creative process for songs like on the new EP was notably different from her previous singles. Rather than adhering to a strict schedule, she allowed space for creativity to flow naturally. “I approached how I creatively show up differently than I have with any previous singles. Rather than making myself create or scheduling it, I instead allowed for a space for creating to take place,” she said. This organic approach resulted in tracks that feel both genuine and deeply resonant.
The production involved with STARPOP was a collaborative effort that brought together talented individuals to blend Wolftyla’s specific style of pop and R&B seamlessly. She worked closely with producer Xavi, describing their partnership as a “special force.” Their goal was to create a sound that was both tasteful and true to her artistic identity. “It was just a perfect recording process,” she noted, highlighting the joy and ease that characterized the creative process.
LOVE, LIFE, AND UNITY
The STARPOP EP is a celebration of life, love, and unity, themes that manifest strongly in Wolftyla’s music. Each song on the EP reflects different forms of love—romantic, self-love, and the love shared with friends and family. Wolftyla emphasizes the importance of community and the strength found in coming together. “Whether it’s through shared struggles or collective celebrations, unity is what helps us grow and thrive,” she expressed.
Among the tracks on STARPOP, Wolftyla is particularly excited for listeners to hear “you.” This song holds a special place in her heart, especially after experiencing the enthusiastic response from fans at her first headline show in Seoul. “It was such a special feeling hearing the crowd scream when they heard [the Korean] parts,” she recalled, highlighting the connection she has with her audience.
Another highlight on the album comes with the penultimate track “updown.” An accurate representation of the relatable ups and downs in a loving relationship all wrapped up in a three-minute hyper-pop banger. She pushed herself to explore new vocal ranges and styles, which is evident through the EP as a whole. “It really captures how I’ve been feeling lately about love, life, and unity,” she said.
