Hip-hop and R&B septet XG continue to evolve and dominate the industry with their fifth single “WOKE UP.” Made up of members Jurin, Chisa, Hinata, Harvey, Juria, Maya, and Cocona, the global group returned with their first all-rap song, delivering unique rap performances from each member. Label XGALX describes the fresh composition as “an unconventional track with 808 bass and distinctive East Asian sounds,” showing off XG’s innovative musical style and the seamless fusion of lyrical empowerment.

XG Left To Make Another Statement

Staying true to their name, XG push boundaries in their music and styling as they tap back into their hip-hop roots. The group embodies the essence of hip-hop as the members ride a booming bass while delivering melodic flows and a hard hitting message. Taking inspiration from North andEast Asian sounds, XGALX representative and executive producer JAKOPS (SIMON) blended traditional instruments with XG’s genre bending style. Abandoning the group’s typical hooking choruses, “WOKE UP” focuses on the XG members’ distinct rap acts with the instrumental support of a minimalist drum composition and hyper-active trap beat. With the addictive chorus lines like “Woke up lookin’ like this” and heavy bassline, XG present a dark track that aims to break the stereotypes created by societal expectations.

The world of Xtraordinary Girls is more than just a planet, and the group is ready to show you why. South Korean artist and photographer Cho Gi-Seok, who previously participated in XG’s “GRL GVNG,” returned as creative director for the “WOKE UP” music video.Alongside compelling high-grade CGI, the XG members embody different personas as they show off their charisma and energy throughout the music video’s movie-like storyline. One by one XG members show off charisma and energy in this movie-like storyline of mythical visuals and breathtaking events. As per XG tradition, wolves made a notable appearance in this comeback — XG have referenced wolves in past tracks, such as “Tippy Toes,” “X-GENE,” and “XG TAPE #4.” The “WOKE UP” video also depicted XG as a pack of wolves as they  donned fur pelt costumes and metal fangs. XG’s consistent declaration of teamwork and loyalty to one another within their lyricism, and with the dressing of wolf inspired costumes and makeup, XG perfectly incorporates the mythical and metaphorical symbol into both writing and vision.
