It’s official. Korean-Australian rapper Felix Lee declared he’s in his strawberry boy summer era! (And we’re all here for it.) Taking part in Stray Kids’ promotions for “Chk Chk Boom,” the K-pop star took over the internet with a blush-rich beauty look that put a twist on the food-themed makeup craze.
Felix sported the quintessential strawberry makeup formula: flushed pink cheeks and glossy lips, creating the perfect juxtaposition with his platinum hair. And thankfully, the superstar gave his fans — and beauty enthusiasts like us! — a closer look at his makeup on social media.
Curious yet? Here’s everything you need to know about Felix’s take on strawberry makeup.
Strawberry Makeup
ICYMI, the strawberry makeup trend made rounds within celebrity circles and social media in the summer of 2023. Popularized by American model Hailey Bieber, the makeup style garnered attention for its flattering use of the color pink. The look consisted of rosy eyeshadow, blush enhanced with (sometimes faux) freckles dusted over the nose bridge and glossy tinted lips. The trend also embraced the use of strawberry-scented products and a red berry-leaning color palette. The idea was to create a rosy glow for those who didn’t want to sacrifice their skin barrier during the warmer months.
More importantly, the term “strawberry makeup” debuted during the height of food-themed beauty trends. Latte makeup, blueberry milk nails and other food-embracing beauty trends were all the craze last summer. While many of these fads dissipated by the end of the season, strawberry makeup lived on beyond the typical micro-trend cycle and served as the precursor to other trends such as tanghulu lips and boyfriend blush.
Now, Felix is resurrecting strawberry makeup, putting his own spin during the summer of 2024.
Felix’s Take on Strawberry Makeup
What is so different about Felix’s strawberry makeup, you may ask? Well, the K-pop star put a twist on the trend by changing the placement of the pink pigment. Rather than creating a diffused sunburnt haze, Felix’s makeup artist defined his features with a subtle use of products.
Rosy brown eyeshadow framed his eyes. Then, the blush placement started high on the nose bridge and under the eyes — a blush placement slightly reminiscent of the pink under-eye makeup technique. The blush replaced the traditional brown contour powders for a striking pop of color. Just like in the original strawberry makeup, Felix elevated the look with his (natural) freckles, which peaked through his base makeup. Complimenting the rest of his beauty look, bright pink lip gloss added color to Felix’s lips.
While Felix completed his look with an effortless hair updo, a red and black-colored outfit and fashion-forward accessories, his makeup took center stage. Felix’s rendition of strawberry makeup looked different from the traditional sunkissed blush of the past, proving the power of blush placement to flatter your features. Considering Felix’s influence, maybe this is the next evolution of the trend.
